I see that Arsene Wenger is proposing a change to the offside rule which would massively favour the attackers, it’s going to be trialled in Sweden u21 league.

Will be Interesting to see how this works out. Personally I’m not sure it’s balanced enough and surely a better option would be to limit the time taken to make a VAR decision rather than changing the rule completely. Saying that Sunderland could benefit massively with our attacking approach!

As quoted by ESPN, Wenger explained: "You will be not offside if any part of the body that can score a goal is in line with the last defender, even if other parts of the attacker's body are in front."

Saw this last night and looked on here and nowt was posted on it yet!

Offside seems to be all about being to the extreme all to make VAR better. When var was first introduced a ****ing toe was offside, now its practically the whole body needs to be off.

All to make VAR work better, **** ****ing VAR.

We would have gotten more points under VAR last season imo like <laugh>

Would definitely simplify things that’s for sure and lines up with the ball out of play rule.

I suppose if the ball has to be completely over the line to be out of play then a player should need to be completely past the last defender to be offside

that’s exactly how it should be. Much simpler to address and favours attacking play

The (non) red card for Luton in the second leg springs to mind. Awful challenge.

To be fair, O’Nien was lucky to get away with a few early in the season.

Both Blackburns goals at their place!

First wouldn't have been scored as we would have had a pen just before and second was offside.

Was it Sheff Utd with an offside aswell?

It will make a difference, but it won't stop the stupid VAR controversies.

No issue with VAR personally but massive issue with the lines drawn. Pause the frame have a look if it's clear the linesmans initial call was wrong change it if not let it go. Bit like lbw with cricket and the umpires call line

True, still think the biggest issue is the time it takes. VAR should get 30seconds to review the footage, if they can’t say for certain either the original decision stands or the ref gets 30 seconds to look at the screen.
5 seconds max imo. Otherwise we play on and go with the ref.

Make it ten seconds, and I might be in! Though I doubt it.

There should be no running to the tab shelter to look at a tiny screen , in daylight, and without all the angles. It's all for show, they almost never go against what's in their earpiece.

As for offside, they just don't have the tools. Whatever the law might end up saying, a judgement has to be made. Using a wobbly, foot thick line to judge matters of half an inch, is absurd, especially when the "ball being played", element of the law is even harder to be sure of. In fact no one seems to know when that is. Is it when the boot first comes into contact with the ball, or when the ball leaves the boot? In many cases that is more than the tech can handle, so they just blip over it.

Now the linos have mostly gone to sleep, knowing that someone looking at a couple of fuzzy lines will make a judgement.

This is not even the worst element of VAR. For me it is killing the game.

It’s all well and good changing the law in this way, but we have seen people 2 yards off not given, and 2 yards in given. If VAR is not involved then it’s pointless

Helps to play for the right team mind!

i have a rule, 5 seconds for a throw in and 10 seconds for a goal kick and the ball boy gives the player the ball also, if not taken within the time a throw in to the other team, if goal goal kick/freekick in pen area not taken a penalty given against that team. injured ? player taken straight off the pitch on a cart within 30 seconds. players not allowed to 'sit down' either. If this happens 3 times a booking occurs.
