Be good to double the bastards again this year, but I can't see it happening at the rate we're going. Another 2-1 at home and 3-0 away wouldn't half help though.
Here's a question. Is our football rivalry the biggest in the UK? We have an entire region effectively split by two massive teams with a combined attendance of almost 100,000. It also seems to be getting a bit More toxic these days which is sad. A few of my uncles used to go to see both North East teams play back in the day. You won't hear about that anywhere else. Comm, I done a star rating thing for this thread as it's back to a proper football debate which will stir the passion no doubt.
Hopefully we will give you ****ers a run for your money this year! Off topic is the Caterham ownership sorted yet?
Aye mate, it's all water under the bridge now, done and dusted as far as i'm concerned. Like you say, it's a whole region, it's easy for me, as i'm from Sunderland so had no choice, same as folks from Newcastle don't really have a choice. But what about the one's in between, how do they decide?
My old man took me to SJP to watch you lot play Revie's Leeds team back in the early 70s. Thought nothing of it then, but by the 80s the derby games were getting a bit tasty.
Left a big hole in the town centre which is currently being filled with retirement flats. That Fernandez is a tosser and I hope QPR go down...
My paternal grandmother was from Sunderland as were all of her family but I was brought up in Gateshead which is strong black-and-white country. I was taken to SJP as a young kid and have followed them ever since. I've family all over the North East and enjoy a bit of banter but do think it has gone way too far in recent times. The violence from some of our 'fans' after the Sunderland wins at our place in the last two years has sickened me.
Oh and it's four years to the day that we beat Sunderland 5-1. It's about time we beat you again! <grin>
