'Football Not For Me' - Briatore

FLAVIO Briatore has stated that while football wasn't the game for him - he did the job he set out to do at Queens Park Rangers

Speaking to Gazetta dello Sport the former co-owner stated he delivered on his primary promise of taking QPR back to the Premier League.

He stated: 'With QPR I did what I promised, but football is not for me'

'When we arrived, QPR were bottom and we promised to bring the club up to the Premier League in three years. We did it. No regrets, I did my job.'

He then went on to tell the news outlet an interest set of statements regarding football players and management at large, indicating as to why he didn't find a great fondness for the game.

'They (managers) fall in love for a player and after two months they dump him'.

'They (players) are spoiled! A 'panchinaro' (italian term for the player always on the bench) gains more than a company executive. And when a player gets fined, he doesn't pay.

'If a player misses, there is always an excuse. Everything is due to them. Private airplanes and all luxuries. It can't continue this way'.

When questioned regarding the ethos of paying drivers in Formula One, Briatore stated:

'Only three drivers makes the difference. The others drivers earn what they deserve. And don't forget that behind them there's the work of 800 persons. They have a lot of responsability'.

Briatore sold his stake along with Bernie Ecclestone on Thursday to Malaysian businessman Tony Fernandes, who has become the majority shareholder.

With thanks as always to QPR Italia

" I did what I set out to" That must be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. When he was in charge everything was a farce. I've never seen or heard of such an incompetent chairman (perhaps with the exceptions of Mike Ashley and the Hearts one) in my life. Every time he said or did something it made me cringe with embarrassment.

I also dispute the claim that if it weren't for him we'd be in Lge 1/2. There's just as much chance as someone with a real interest in the Club with a football mind that could have come in and stabilized us with far less money. He was a megalomaniac and liar and he treated people with contempt. Good riddance. I hope his F1 interests collapse around him too.

That has been speculated many times but there has never been any evidence that anyone alse was about to step in and even if they had they would probably not have had the resources that the dasterdly duo were able to use (in addition to the outlay on wages they brought unheard of sponsorship deals don't forget). Even if, like me, you hate their approach to everything I am convinced we got very lucky indeed the day they showed up. QPR would probably still exist but no way would we be where we are today (Luton Town also still exist - kind of). But we got even luckier last week when they finally buggered off though and we got what looks like the best deal of all. We sold our soul to the devil and it looks like we got away with it.

Agree Flavio's orange fingers will be up someone else's skirt soon enough. He is one's of the world's peacocks and one of a list of faces (ScottJonesy being another) I would choose to have sticking through my bedroom wall so I could wake up each morning and smack a round a bit ... even the odd bit of dentistry. On a par with insurance sales people or recruitment agents ... parasites who do f**k all

"Panchinaro" - great term - think we'll have one on Hulse's shirt instead of a number
