That's probably because it isn't really football Elfs.

The 2019 season in the Premier League and Championship are being forced to finish chiefly in order to avoid having to pay £millions or even £billions back to TV sponsors around the world.
It has nothing to do with the integrity of the game or the people's love for it. That's just an excuse being used by the Government, who are in cahoots with the PL money men. Yes, they hope that a smattering of free-to-air live games will distract the public from the disintegration of the UK Coronavirus response, but that isn't the same as caring about it.

The resumption of the two top leagues is 100% about money. Nothing whatsoever to do with public morale or rubbish like that.

It's fake football in empty stadiums, mass substitutions, fixtures every 3/4 days for 10 weeks, crowd noises over the PA and cardboard cut-outs in seats.
There will be a cheesy TV circus surrounding it, with an unprecedented amount of utter bollocks spouted by Gary Lineker and his type.
Hours and hours and hours of it, filling up SSN and the sport radio channels.

Shock horror injury dramas. Managers having spats. Players refusing to play. Maybe even a couple of positive virus tests.
And of course moralising about the inevitable idiotic antics of a small minority of fans.

People can watch it if they like.
Doubtless we will talk about some of it on here. Royston might even come back and offer his opinions on it.
But is it football as we've known it all our lives?

    :emoticon-0145-shake No.
Nor should it pretend to be.

The Premier League have said that if a player tests positive for COVID19 his team-mates will NOT have to self-isolate,
even if those team-mates have been contact training with that player all week.

And if a player tests positive for COVID19 even just bafore a match, that match will NOT be postponed.

They say this is because contact training does NOT mean players have been in "close contact for more than 15 minutes"
which is the definition requiring people to self-isolate (by the test, tract & trace rules).

    In my mind this raises two questions;

    1) If a player tests positive for COVID19, why bother to even stop him playing in a match?
If the contact during the game does not meet the criteria for his team-mates to have to self-isolate.

    2) If everybody is tested before each match and all are negative, why bother to tell players to social distance?

Either way, we now know that Premier League players are regarded as part of the Elite; that group of people (including friends of the Prime Minister) who do not have to obey test, track & trace rules, lockdown rules, or any other rules - which are only for the rest of us.

A rule for a footballer, a rule for the rest of the country.

Can (the few remaining)much valued members put one word that describes this?

    Mine is "disgraceful".

    Hypocritical.

The measures taken to finish the Premier League & Championship have nothing to do with a love for football.
Where is the effort to get grass-roots football up and running again?
Where is help for thousands of small Clubs?
    Nowhere.
All they do is mock us with the television circus of elite football, while pretending that this means everything is getting back to normal.

Hundreds of amateur Clubs will go to the wall. Dozens of Clubs in tiers 6 or 7 right up to the Championship will go into administration.
You won't see Lineker and his buddies gushing on about that for hours on TV.
Just who Chelsea have signed for £50 million this week.

    It stinks.

Fake crowd noise at football matches - gets the official Lineker seal of approval :emoticon-0160-movie

    footy 03.png

    Football without fans is nothing.

But they are doing their best to convince you that it is something, by dressing it up with 'bloody clever' TV fakery.
This is the future of Elite football, with or without Coronavirus.
    Nothing, dressed as something.

I'm no great fan of football match repeats.
Some people like them, fair enough.

    But this afternoon on Channel 4 is an old game worth watching;

The 1966 World Cup Final - the whole match, not just highlights.
I've never seen it all the way though.
It will be a thrill and a privilege to watch it.

    Channel 4 ... 1:30pm to 4:40pm

I'm not sure if the footballers are that comfy witj this decisión, but puerile covers it for me. Some of the controlling interests seem to have mistaken football for a key industry. I miss my Charlton fix, but in a pandemic, it's really dense to suddenly decide football has to continue with a different set of rules for the rest of the population.

    • Nannies
    • Car show rooms
    • TV football
    • Shops
    • Pubs & restaurants

    • Schools

    • Care homes

Leagues One and Two threw in the towel today.
They are going to decide promotions & relegations on a points-per-game basis.

Real football in this country is no more. Finished by Coronavirus.
Frankenstein Football - devoid of humanity (the fans) and now powered solely by global broadcasting money - is coming to a device near you.
A soulless parody, animated only by fake crowd noises and worshiped by fawning pundits.

And of course boys and girls don't stop betting on it, even though the fun stopped a long time ago.
You'll be reminded at least 6 times at every commercial break.

Peterborough United drop out of the top 6 after the League One table is reorganised to "points per game".
Wycombe Wanderers rise from 8th to 3rd.

Still having promotion and relegation after a season that is only three quarters finished is plainly unfair.
How can the EFL run a league which is supposed to be decided over 46 games, then declare the season finished and ratify a 'finished' league table after 35?
Worse than that - they don't just ratify the table, they re-jig it according to a concept of fairness they just made up.

Peterborough should sue the EFL, but I suppose they don't have the money to do so.
The very heart of sport is fair play.
If you cannot be fair, better to void the unfinished season and expunge records, rather than allow unfairness to stand.

Stokes manager O’Neill has tested positive for the virus and a friendly against Man U was cancelled- he had 5 previous tests which were all negative so it makes me wonder how many Other people have thought they’re out of the woods and yet could Still be spreading it !

    Taxi for Dele Alli <doh>

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53007456

The video posted by Alli showed him wearing a face mask in an airport lounge,
before the camera moved to show a man of Asian appearance, and then zoomed in on a bottle of antiseptic handwash.

He is delighted that the FA have confirmed his action was not racist.
    This is because he despises racism of any kind and likes to pontificate thus;
"We all need to be mindful of the words and actions we use and how they can be perceived by others."

Yep. Perhaps you should follow your own advice Dele.
And why the one match ban, if the FA are so certain there was no racist intent?
What other intent could there be?
It doesn't even work as a bad joke without a racist context, as far as I can see anyway.

Also, I was not aware until now that the FA (a bunch of crusty old white men) are the supreme authority when it comes to deciding whether something is racist or not. Dele's faith in them is quite touching really.

The Premier League gives details of how it's gonna be...

    footy 04.png

    A minute's silence?

    The supreme irony.
A minute's ringing of cash registers would be more appropriate.

During the game there will be another 90 minutes of silence from the empty stands.
But TV viewers will be able to ignore that and listen to fake cheering.
