I'm buying FM 12 today and I'm going to be Hull City, if there's any FM 12 players on here can you give me some tips or words of help as it is my first ever Football Manager game, basically I just want to know the ins and outs of how it works and what are the pros and cons, also, if you play it and you're Hull City, how much wage and transfer budget do you get? Thanks!

Is it pretty difficult to understand with all the tactics and financial stuff?

How many leagues are on the game, some of my mates say there are 1 or 2 non leagues such as blue square premier, but I've seen some videos on youtube where they are up to six non leagues, plus, is there any other home country leagues such as northen ireland, wales and division 1, 2 and 3 of the scottish leagues

Initially, you can only go as low as Blue Square North/South. But if you download the editor you can stick Ferriby in Blue Square North (or even the Prem for a laugh), which is presumably what MikeHull has done. You don't get very much at City unless you can get rid of the big earners (quite realistic really). You can usually flog McShane for 500k but you have to pay 2k of his wages until his previous contract at City would've expired, it's easy to sell Ghilas, but he's quality on it so might be worth keeping. Oli is difficult to get shot of though. Cullen and Cairney both get fairly decent, especially Cairney. It's fairly easy to use, you just have to be patient and stick to your gameplan. Don't go changing formations every time you lose or you just do ****.

On the official FM forums you can download extra leagues, such as taking the English leagues down to level 12 on the pyramid, that is how people add all these extra leagues, you can also activate them yourself on the editor.

Yeah thats what I did. Ferriby in the evo stick premier in the Doodson cup, can't beat it. Though I won the league scoring 107 goals, 1 off equalling the record. Gutted :(

Just keep pressing the space bar? That's how you advance then it'll say 'Team Selection' (you pick your team), then 'Submit Team'.

I have to play McShane due to injuries, half my team is out including Fryatt, Stewart & Hobbs! If you go through the tactics in depth then it can take a while, but sometimes the anticipation is worth it!
Got it on my iPhone & doing really well. Much easier as obviously not enough room to put the whole game engine in it. So far I've won everything bar the FA Cup, have made the final though. Currently leading the PL by 5 points from Man Utd. Going for 4th title in a row. 8 England Internationals with another 2 injured.
The only problem I have is I have to keep charging the phone all the time.

The original fm12, before the update, was ridiculous the amount of injuries and suspensions you get. It is much easier on the iphone or PSP and goes way quicker though.

Is there any irritating bugs or glitches on the game that would annoy perfectionists(ME!), I hate things that arn't correct on video games, FIFA 12 had annoying squad player mistakes that I never can get over, also, can you keep the default squads on FM 12 before the january transfer window, or do they automatically update themselves without decision, I would like to start the season with the default squads so I can make my judgement on my squad ahead of the new season without shifting any players, I heard Ghilas and Harper do okay and you can shift McShane and Kilbane to get rid of any unused wage. Thanks again.

Yes it asks you which database you want to use when starting a new game, you just select "Default" rather than 1.3 or whatever.

If you're using default squads then keep Simpson when he returns in January - he's absolutely ridiculous as a poacher, 25+ goals a season.
Oh, and get Danny Haynes if possible - I remember when I got him (before he went to Charlton) he banged in something like 44 goals in all competitions.

Exactly what I'm talking about with Haynes, I tried to get him on FIFA 12 before he went to Charlton but it always said that he only just joined Barnsley, which is a lie, I'm glad you can play with default squads

To be honest, it's not that difficult. The editor comes with the game, but it should only really be used if you are experienced. I'm doing a North Ferriby file now, it's pretty hard getting out of the NPL, but I'm 3rd with half the season gone and only 2 points off the top, so I guess it can be done. I did a Hull file and I'm 2020, some tips are as follows.

    1. Offload McShane, Kilbane, McShane, Garcia, Harper, Atkinson, Devitt and Oxley, they don't do anything and they free up wages. Simpson you can get rid of, Fryatt is one of the best strikers in the division so I didn't need him, but he isn't bad and can fetch a tidy sum. When Ghilas comes back, if you aren't promoted try hang onto him, he's pretty good.

    2. Signing players is difficult, if you have the update, then Mannone and King should be in there. I bought Joe Cardle from Dunfermline and Michael Bostwick from Stevenage, as well as getting Yannis Tafer on loan from Lyon and Ben Amos from Man U. Won the league first time round.

    3. Tactically, I went 4-3-3 with Fryatt up front, Cardle and Brady on both wings and McKenna, Cairney (reject Man City's advances) and Evans in the middle. Set Mannone as a Sweeper Keeper, McKenna as a BWM and Cairney as an AP and you should be fine.

Clearly there's a big difference between me and you Tommy <laugh>

Simpson as I've said above is actually unbelievable - inconsistent(on a season-by-season basis, not game-to-game) but unbelievable.

I don't have the stats right now but he had something like this for me:
1st season: Championship - 36 goals (lost in playoff final)
    2nd season: Championship - 9 goals (promotion)
    3rd season: PL - 18 goals (ridiculous to say it's Simpson <yikes>
    4th season: PL - 5 goals.

Like I said that's just an estimate, but still.
I agree with the offloads - add Olofinjana though, he's on very high wages.

City must be the easiest tactically on the game. I struggle with other teams, but basic tactics seem to suit Hull very well. "Balanced, Standard" 4-4-2, with Stewart and Brady moved forward a space to wingers instead of wide midfielders. (Technically the game calls it 4-2-4)

DO NOT sell Stewart. By 3rd season his stats are still pathetic but he's absolutely brilliant.
Cairney needs to play every game - Advanced Playmaker - he gets about 30 assists a season in the Championship. Koren is bloody awful - anyone had any luck with him?
