Tomorrow is when the league will probably vote on if the overseas loan ruling should be "closed" I am not certain it will be totally though - reckon the numbers will be limited like with domestic loan signings. TBH I feel we wouldn't be going out to get as many loan players anyway - the reason we had so many last summer coming in was because it was a last minute short term fix to get players in. IF we get the current loan players signed on permanent deals we'd have a very big squad and wouldn't need endless numbers.
I hope they close it, then we will really find out which of these Udinese players truly/genuinely want to be WFC players (for over a year) and who dont.
It's unlikely they'll close it, they'll just re-work it so it falls in line more with the domestic loan rules. It will simply be 2 from any one team. This would still leave 4 players open to us! I am happy for them to change it - as previously stated, this was a short term fix as we didn;t have time to bring in players on permanent deals. With everythin in place this summer, hopefully we will get our business done early and all the playere in and ready for pre-season training! It probably actually suits all the other teams if the rule was to stay, so they can take advantage of it and try to create their own links. The thing with us is we have the same owners, so and transfers can be free anyway, so if it's a loan or a transfer, the only thing difference is who pays the wages.
Oh, and as for who we will sign. I imagine most of the regulars will want to sign up permanently. You'd hope they see what happened this season - that our first season with so many new players, along with a new manager and new style of football how close we came to gaining promotion - you'd hope that with the same group of players, with a few minor tweaks, that they can push on and make that next step and play Premiership football... with us! Also, whether it was good press (having a legend that is Zola and our passing football) or bad (the number of loans) at least we had a lot of coverage. This will raise these players profile, so even if they see us as a stepping stone to bigger things, you'd think they'd realise they'd get noticed playing for us!
So where is this meeting? At one of the clubs with conference facilities you might expect, moving around from time to time so as to spread the goodwill up and down the country. No, it is actually in Portugal. Lending a bit of support to their economy I think.
I'd like to see us sign someone soon so we can prove to eveyone that WE ARE NOT BANNED FROM SIGNING PLAYERS .
There is a thread on the Charlton Athletic site which suggests that Aurelio de Laurentiis, the chaiman of Napoli, is looking to buy a Club in England and run it on the same lines as Watford and Udinese. If there is any danger of us having set a precedent then I can imagine them closing any loopholes fairly quickly. The Charlton thread is called 'Please God not us !' if anyone fancies a look at it.
Also heard a target was Sheff Weds. Palace would be unlikely now I think due to promotion - would cost a lot more to buy them now. A Sheffield team would be a good choice with the fan base up there - unfortunately it comes along with a lot of expectation!
i doubt they'd look at Sheffield, it's not near London. I hope they change the rules simply because then nobody else can benefit from them...and we weren't going to get that many loans in now anyway. I reckon we'll get 4 or 5 from Udi and Granada..and that'll be our lot this season. As for the loanees we have, i believe those we want will sign...
BBC seems to suggest the rules will just be brought in line with domestic loan signings so 5 allowed with 4 from one club..
It would be great if Napoli bought palace and started doing similar things. What would firm forum favourite Mr Holloway do then?
It's Napoli so they could tell Mr Holloway that they're getting in Rafa Benitez from season 2014/2015, Mr holloway will do his pieces and storm off in a huff with no compensation and then, just as he's out of the door, Napoli will do a Palace and take Rafa back on loan until the end of the season* Perfect! *I know that you ca'lt do that with managers but my childish little brain thinks this would be highly amusing hence me flaging it up
Dan, I'm right there with you in the sense of humour stakes, but we have to be careful, I think H is secretly in love with Hollowhead!
She will like you saying that, I am hoping Watford take a couple of QPR's players on loan next season so no restrictions will suit me
I agree with Mitch - I also think that it will show whether the words the owners have been saying the whole time were true. So if it closes we will see the players and management vindicated - or not.
