Who remembers the following football games from yesteryear? Subbuteo - Fantastic game and arguably the best ever. We used to have our own League on the street where I lived. Very skillful game as well, still have my complete collection in the loft ! please log in to view this image Soccerama - Board game where you started in Division 4 and worked your way up through the leagues and into European competition, loved it. please log in to view this image Wembley - Another board game where the object of the game was to win the FA Cup please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Striker - Loved this too, you pressed the player's head and his foot would kick the ball. please log in to view this image Got any others ?
I remember getting Subbutteo for Christmas the game came with Brazil & Argentina teams, just for added measure my Dad threw in the Norwich Scoreline kit team as well as the England, happy days.
I remember when one of my subbuteo players broke. My dad told me to put a match under it then press it back onto the base. I was gutted when after a few seconds all I had left was a head on a base
We used to log every game in our League. Every player was numbered and every goalscorer, goal time, sending off etc was recorded. I've still got that hand written data to this day ! I also used to play 'solo', funny how NCFC always won the League and Cup double !
You do love your history, don't you? All the cool kids are into their playstations and x-boxes and FIFA and PES and you come up with this??
Brilliant game Subbuteo. Wonder what today's kids would make of it -- if you could drag them away from their Play Stations. I can imagine the incredulity: "You mean you actually er, flick them, with your finger?"
I don't know how old you are welly, but in my day Subbuteo was THE football game. I thought all 1p5wich fans knew about football history anyway as that's all they have and all they ever want to ****ing talk about
I remember for my 9th birthday I got the first electronic football game called "Jimmy" which was advertised a lot on TV by John Motson at the time! It was based on a stadium with green cardboard for the pitch with flashing lights in either half. One of those games that looked fecking brilliant when it was being advertised by John Motson but in reality it was as boring as he is!
I inherited a 'magnetic' football game from an Uncle when I was a kid, it had a wooden framed metal pitch on legs. You held a wooden stick thing with a magnet on the end under the pitch which would move the players across the pitch which were also magnetic. It was bloody good actually, would probably be worth a small fortune if I still had it today
Whatever, mate...but I'll tell you what, as we know, there's an ongoing joke between us lot about "banging on about history", but in all honesty, you're the worst of all of our East Anglian posters for it, and this thread is just another in a long line of your "historical" threads... You carry on, mate
At least when Motson has finally been put out to grass there'll be a bit of history no-one will feel any nostalgia for!
Did anyone used to play blow football? Gave you a headache and eventually spit would start dripping out of the straw.
Fair play, I do like my history but that's probably because I had such a happy childhood growing up in the sixties and seventies. I had a wonderful mother, God rest her soul, who's stories about growing up in wartime inspired me to appreciate all things about modern history
At the risk of getting off topic I will say that Motson is the most boring and overated commentator there has ever been! Yes he is a nice bloke but I wouldn't want to have a pint with him down at my local. For me the best football commentator on the TV was the great Barry Davies and on the radio the late great Brian Butler. Anyhoo apologies for going off on a tangent! Good thread KIO I speak from experience as I have met Motty a few times when he was doing some functions at the Copdock Hotel for Ipswich Town for the anniversary dinners.
