Not 2 words that should be used together, but sadly there is a need. Could terrorist actions have any effect on football tournaments. Euro's coming up. Managers already stating they should go ahead. So some make think the tournament maybe in jeopardy. Could it? Is there any real threat to a prem game or games? Probably. So what extra measures could be taken if any?
Security is hightened at large events and terrorists tend to hit soft targets so I imagine it would not be something that they would do, there's no hard and fast rules here so there is always a risk.
Big sporting occasions must be a nightmare for the security services. Just look at the London Olympics. Went off without a hitch. You'd think the police and intelligence services had nothing to do during it but I bet they were working their arses off behind the scenes well before and during it.
Terrorists employing clever tactics now. Set a bomb off in a soft target area to distract the services then blow up the real device in their chosen hit. Events have to go ahead or the terrorists will win. Can appreciate just what our intelligence services are doing behind the scenes, but can they always be that one step ahead of the game?
It's weird that in both 9/11 & London 7/7 the security/intelligence services that there was terrorist drills.
Belgium have just postponed their friendly with Portugal, these bastards are causing chaos on many fronts.
On Channel4 news last night a belgian journalist said that the government knew of many jihadi's who'd returned home from Syria but that there was an unwritten rule that if they didn't kick-off at home they'd be left alone, mainly because the gov't had to keep them quiet because they didn't have the security or intelligence resources to deal with all of them. Bloody idiotic politicians!! Keeping quiet and hoping for the best!
Euro 2016 impact? A member of Uefa's executive committee has raised the possibility of Euro 2016 matches being played behind closed doors following the attacks in Brussels, BBC Sport is reporting. Former Italy FA chief Giancarlo Abete says the tournament in France in June and July is an event we "can't delay or postpone", and Uefa cannot exclude playing behind closed doors as the organisation cannot exclude terrorism".
i am sure if IS want to, they can do pretty much what they want in mainland Europe. The borders are pretty much open for free travel so what is to stop IS from bombing whoever and where ever they want? If they want to call a game off and cause maximum disruption they only have to target the football grounds without the spectators in them. The worst damage they could do in England (in my opinion) is blow up a bridge over the M25 or any other main motorway, can you imagine how much disruption that would cause?
Bloody idiot! I bet his old man's tank only had reverse gear in WW2!! We must stand up to these people and let them know they can't change our way of life!!
There were allegedly drills happening the day of the Paris attacks too. The number of blatant lies we've been told about 9/11 and 7/7 is scandalous. As a result I don't trust anything spouted by the media and politicians after any 'terrorist' attack. I have absolutely no trust in the systems that govern us.
I know an ex police guy who was drafted onto the security for the Olympics - he started this post three years before the event/
There's no way to stop it from happening unfortunately. The terrorists are already here and will be planning some type of act at a major sporting event. When you consider that stadiums like Twickenham,. Wembley, Old Trafford, Anfield, Emirates, Stadium of Light and ST James etc are usually always brimming to capacity it's ripe for suicide bombers. It's just a matter of time.
Trafford Centre is bigger and probably has massively more footfall. Don't you know Billy, we do everything bigger and better. One in Croatia is the largest in Europe.
All hail wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_shopping_centres_in_the_United_Kingdom_by_size Billy is not right, but he ain't totally wrong either Ted
