So after another shambles in Europe does our attention now shift to the title race? I think it's our best chance at a major trophy before Wenger leaves as I think once his current deal runs out he will be off. Our distracted performances in Europe last season and this season lead me to believe that we are not taking this competition seriously anymore. I wouldn't even bother watching the rest of the group games. Even if by some miracle we make it through, we're not going to win the competition so better to conserve energy for when it really matters.
I think even if you gave Wenger no other compo whatsoever and optimal gaps between games, we still wouldn't win the league. There are far too many weaknesses in his management for that to make a difference. In terms challenging for league or CL we can just write it off until he goes. While AW stays all we can hope for is damage limitation in terms of quality players not deserting us.
We are the most miserable negative fanbase. It has to be said. Sure its unlikely we can win it.. but there's something in fighting and believing in your team against all odds.
Wenger is the one who's knocked it out of me. I don't need to fight... THEY do. But they won't. Because Wenger won't. And sorry, but after a decade I simply don't believe in him or them.
I think there may be a couple of teams in the league doing worse than you at the moment. I used to think scousers were the "entitled ones" but you lot have definitely taken that title off them.
Negativity being confused with realism. We will not win the league. I don't mind us not buying pllyers if we are producing good ones of our own, but in the last 10 years only Wilshere has emerged (not counting the foreign ones we picnhed from Barca). Everyway you look at it we have failed ... buying the targeted players, brining through pur own, competing with the best. I might not even mind if we could every now and then roll over Chelsea/Man Utd etc, but we've never under Wenger had big wins against them, but boy have we been wolloped by them down the years. The buck stops with Wenger. If you think top four is good enough then he is good enough, but if you think winning/challenging for titles is the minimum then Wenger has been failing. I even think our ability to get 4th recently has been reliant on other teams being less better than us, rather than us being a genuine top 4 strong team.
I've been saying that we should be concentrating on the league than waste time in the CL. Of course I'd love to win it but you have to be realistic with where this team is and the rest of the Prem teams, we simply aren't good enough at the moment. But the league, we have the quality to compete with the rest, whether we do it remains to be seen. But we will see if the manager and players are good enough this season.
We've never had big wins against Man Utd & Chelsea under Wenger ? FA Cup final v Chelsea 2002 Winning the league at Old Trafford 2002 Marc Overmars 1998
Are you replying with these dates to try and say that Wenger is capable of winning big vs these teams now? When all you have is dates from 1998 and 2002?? So his last big league winning game was about the time the first ever ipod was released? Christ. Or is time completely irrelevant as long as the success criteria just happened at some point in history? In which case should we get Thierry Henry to come back and play for us now as he was world class in 2002 so must be now too...?
I was replying to the specific point that we've never had big wins against Man Utd & Chelsea under Wengeror do wins only count if they only happen at a specific point of time at your choosing
Isn't that a bit pedantic given the point still has some validity even if worded a bit over dramatically (ie. AW can't get big wins against the big teams anymore and hasn't done for an eternity)?
The power of money is growing ever stronger in football and Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea have all got more than you. Essentially you will only finish above them if they **** up. It's the same with Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool but fortunately for us Liverpool **** up a lot. Wenger can't get you above the teams with more resources, only your Board can by creating enough extra income to enable you to match their spending. This is what Levy is trying to do at Spurs - getting a bigger stadium, increasing our world-wide marketing potential etc. Its a long-term job and very misunderstood by the fans (eg complaints about playing in the US and Australia which are indeed stupid things to do in the short-term but create £££M of future income potential).
What is it with people and this ludicrous mindset of "other teams are worse than you therefore you should be grateful?" Other teams being worse than us doesn't excuse our own deficiencies and problems that we have had years to rectify, when we have completely failed to do so. Why is expecting to compete for the title and get past the last 16 in the Champions League being "entitled?" Why is expecting to not concede 3 goals at home to, let's be honest, very average sides like Anderlecht, Olympiakos and Monaco being "entitled?" Why is expecting our defence to be more solid being "entitled?" Perhaps if people focused on these problems, rather than saying "Ah, yeah, well it could be worse", we wouldn't be in such a dire situation at the moment.
Yeah, financial giants like Olympiakos, Anderlecht, Monaco and Zagreb just need to muck up for us to do anything in Europe. Give me break! We have money. We even currently have the players to do better than we are. We've had a decent squad for the past 3-4yrs. Wenger is the problem
