On my phone so don't want to wait for the massive thread to load.

On FM2011 the opposition have a ridiculous amount of shots against me. Drew 1-1 away to Wolves and they had 26 shots. In the previous match I lost 2-1 to Arsenal and they had over 30 shots.

Anyone got advice on how I can cut this down. Doesn't seem to matter which defenders I play. Tried playing two defensive midfielders and getting everyone to close down a lot but doesn't make a difference and is pissing me off.

Any advice would be appreciated! Apologies if I don't reply soon, in the middle of a 12 hour shift til 8 tonight.

Hmm. Focussing on attack is the best form of defence has worked for me. Set your team instructions to 'control', and set up a few tactics for your best formation which means the players keep the ball(I assume they give it away a lot?).

    What's your defence?

Prepare tactics for the game, forgot to prepare the formation for one game away to Liverpool, 2-0 down in the first ten minutes, ended up losing 2-1, Nolan scored late on.

Haven't thought of going more attacking as thought that would make it even worse. I have Simpson, Colo, Jagielka, Enrique as the back four at the moment. Tiote as midfield anchor man. I've had various games and signed different defenders such as Bassong and Magenda but the same thing happens.

Generally don't set individual tactics for every game, I've just been trying to find one or two general ones that will do the job.

Does setting the CB's to 'stopper' or 'cover' etc help? I've always left them on the default defender setting.

Mate Ive found playing a sweeper on FM11 to be absolutely golden, should give it a bash for a few games.

drop an extra player into DM and play on the counter, usually helps me out except for my team "struggle against teams with a higher reputation" at the minute so i always get hammered against the big 4.

also, what's the deal with the transfer window starting on June 8th?! (11.3) and before i get my cash injection too.

EDIT: Also, how the hell do you defend from corners?

This actually pisses me off. Last season Valencia was up for sale and because I had no money he signed for Blackburn <yikes>.

Check where the shots are coming from. If there all from long range your allowing them to much posession.. I'd go a little bit more defensive, and play a little more keep ball. Slow the tempo down, and shorten the passes.

If there getting into your area often, then thats a problem tactics alone can't help!

I always tackle hard and close down everyone, just played away to Man City and had 6 bookings and Coloccini sent off, mind u the ref was very biased.

I've found Tiote to be complete rubbish on the game, might be one problem.

I'll give all the advice a go and see how I get on. Buying decent defenders alone doesn't work. Got a young RB from Palace, can't remember his name but he's labelled 'the next Ashley Cole' (hoping in relation to football ability). He's only 17 but got a rating of 7.20 from his first 10 league games.

I'll try the sweeper, tackling hard and counter attacking etc. Not too concerned about performance v the big 4. I'd be more than happy to be anywhere from 7th to 10th in the first couple of years.

Never gets booked on mine, despite his disciplinary record, my hard tackle tactics and my poor disciplinary record.

Can just imagine the number of CV's being sent to Ashley applying for the managers job if any of you win the Champions league on FM.

go to match prep and set it to defensive movement or defending set peices, then edid your set peices from the tactics section
also dont change formation to often as it can take them a while to get used to it

I use a 4-3-3 similar to Barcelona's: attacking full backs; Tiote holding; Ameobi as a lone forward;press up high on the pitch; short passing. It seems to have worked for me. Currently im in March 2011, 7th in the league and Ameobi has scored 14 goals. Added on to that I've done the double over the Mackems, and also beaten Man Utd and Arsenal at home.

    Worth a try ;)
