not played that game in a long time! may have to get amongst it now. remember signing Cherno Samba, Saviola and D'aleesandro back in the day! what a front 3!... or not
This... Although I've not touched my 2011-12 version for ages! Liverpool seem too good on it too, clearly developed by a Liverpool supporter
Champ Manager 01/02 - has there and will there ever be a better football game? I tried downloading that recently as it's now free but never seemed to work for me which was a bit gutted about to be honest. Haven't brought a FM game in a few years - might download the demo when it's out and see what it's like before I buy it.
Its setup for older versions of windows but modern versions treat it as a modern gane. You need to tell the pc its old for it to work (properties > open with windows nt/98 etc)
My PC is in my sons room now and we primarily use a tablet at home (Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1). I have FM 2012 for it but as its a tablet version is much more trimmed down and its pretty good (Liverpool start with barely any money and you have the task of trimming the wage bill) I finished 2nd in my first season without buying anyone and selling Aqualiani, Kuyt, Cole, Adam. I prefer New Star Soccer on the tablet, that game is awesome
I bought a new FM 2 years ago on a bit of a whim, hadn't bought one for ages and it's just far too tedious. Press conferences are utterly pointless, as are team talks and numerous other features they add to make it "realistic" but are so simplified that it becomes the opposite. I mean who gives a **** about negotiating your own contract? Who's actually playing the game that knows anything about training schedules for top flight clubs? They should've kept it simple and concentrated on making the simulations better and players development more realistic. As it is players seem to peak at 23/24, every outfield player becomes useless at 32, no good players get transfer listed after a year or two and the AI gives far too much probability to the likes of City/Chelsea/United dropping out of the top 4 and sometimes into mid table to be replaced by the likes of Sunderland and West Brom which ruins any sense of achievement you can get from breaking the top 4. I had a game with St. Pauli which sums it up quite well, in the first season I scraped relegation, second season I finished midtable and 3rd season everything clicked and I won the league with the likes of Bentley, Van Den Borre and Al-Habsi all regulars and a wage budget of less than £20mill a year.
Fifa... good god, anyone who'd play manager mode on that completely misses the point of management games. they are for geeks who want to control the game. what FM FAILS to understand is theres way to much in the game about the match itself and the stuff which is outside the match is to basic, and worse repetitive. the press conferences for instance... pointles.s
There's actually a whole new mode in it this year, which takes out a lot of the time-consuming stuff like team talks, press interviews, in-depth training schedules etc... as for the comment about New Star Soccer - yes! i have that on my S3, in my 8th season i think! Great game.
It's sad... but FM 2010 barely runs on my PC. It's FM for chippers sake- it's not supposed to require a high-end gaming PC. I'm sure 2013 would never run on my computer, and I don't have the money for a new one- so sadly- no more football manager games for me for a number of years. I'm up to almost 2050 on my FM2010. Ever so often I alienate my family for a few weeks and play it like crazy... then I come to my senses and stop playing for a few months until I lose my senses and start playing again.
Not quite 2050- I'm in the 40's- don't remember which year- would have to load it to check. Yeah, half the teams are now managed by players that used to play for me. It's not even much of a challenge anymore- I've found once I have the luxury of the best team, if I just buy all the best youngsters- finance it by selling my peak players when they hit 30 (when price starts to drop) I continually have a steady stream of the brightest and best talent (almost never buy anyone over 21) and I win the league every season now. Even the kids that flop, I usually end up selling at a profit because a mediocre 20 y/o is cheaper than a potentially good 17 y/o. Not much point continuing- not sure why I do. Not quite as easy as FM2007, the previous version I had... in that youngsters were dirt cheap- you could buy everyone slightly promising- and even if 90% of them were dud- it would only take that 1 in 10 good purchases to make it worthwhile.
Well that was a massive disappointment, was sacked by Liverpool on 11th November after losing 8 games and drawing 2, sat at the very bottom of the table. Too many flaws in the game engine right now, although it is only the beta pre-release. Stick to 2010!
