    Hi All,

As part of the next phase of my mid life crisis, I have decided to take flying Lessons.

Not commercial or anything, just a small plane licence. Had a Google, bit would always be grateful of people input.

Does anyone know of local places that offer training etc. I see there is a place in leven, but not sure if they do the training.

    Thanks in advance!

Also some flying schools at Humberside Airport - aeroschool and POM

I did a few lessons there a some years back. Landing fees were not too bad, check the Humberside Airport website - they should list the charges on there.

Make sure you can pay the landing fees Idi, or you'll be flying forever.

Good on you Idi.. always been on my wish list. Used to work with a lad many moons ago, saved all his money and trained to be a pilot, seem to remember it cost him something like 40k (will the be right?) Last I heard of him, he'd got a job flying cargo for DHL.

Yea Leven do it. I have had 3/4 lessons a while back as I wanted to do the same. Unfortunately life got in the way.

They said approx cost from the start to getting your license will be £5k-£8k depending on how many lessons you need.

The planes they use there are very old though so just keep that in mind!

A friend of mine did this a few years ago and still flies today. The theory is about A level standard in difficulty so most would struggle on here…..

I'll give Leven and Umberside a ring and see what they say.

Google suggests 6-9k in total depending how much of an idiot you are...so the latter for me.

I had a colleague at work a long time ago who used to fly himself from Preston to away games! Seemed awesome!

For 6-9k you can get yourself a couple of really nice motorbikes - the perfect anti-dote to any mid life crisis; you know you want to!

I'd give both a try and see what you think of the instructors. First lesson, go with an hour as the first 30 minutes is a bit of a blur.

I’m going to live my mid life crisis vicariously through yours.

Saves all that walking and learning stuff ****! ;)

Anyway. Humberside Airport definitely do lessons, or people with planes there do anyway as I knew someone who used to instruct out of there.
I don’t have contact with him anymore, but do have a couple of contacts there so if you don’t find anything obvious drop me a PM and I’ll do some digging for you.

Needs a dolly bird half his age to do that.

Or you can do that vicariously on selected internet sites ...
