When I cast my mind back to the summer and we were bringing in all of our wonderful signings, I remember that it was a standing joke on here that Flyer would crticise them. He was quick to point out that our transfer policy was all wrong and that it would all end in tears. They were too old, ( Cue lots of ' Dads Army quips ) past their best and only here for a final pay day. We needed young and hungrier players with something to prove. ( Or words to that effect, I can't remember them exactly. But you get the gist. ) Many of us on here shouted him down and called him ageist, etc etc. Myself included, but mainly in jest. But my point is...how right he was. In fact the situation is even worse than Flyer even predicted. So Flyer, well done for not being , 'an I told you so.' And I apologise for ever doubting you.
He's got an annoying habit of doing that though...goes back a long way.. But to my crdeit.. I said at the start of last season that I would be happy with 17th place last season AND 17th place this season... I bet most would bite your arm off if that was on offer now...!!
No need to apologise, I wish they made me look a right idiot (no doubt many think I dont need their help!) and did their job The thing is we will be stuck with all these old players now. Zamora refuses to eat with the team and is in a permanent strop so whos going to match his wages. We need more players with the attitude of Cerny, Hill, Mackie, Derry, Park, Nelsen and Taarabts passion (but maybe not his professionalism). Less like Cisse, Green, SWP and Zamora. Now if any of you work for the club, ask if I can have a scouting job.
I'd hate to slap César, but lets be honest, as good as he is, he keeps talking about how he's got a wonderful life here with his family in London, one of the greatest cities in the world, and he's here for the "lifestyle" he said. Nuff said.
Thicker.... I'm worried as to why you have that picture on your computer...something you want to share with us ?
However there is an exception to this rule... Ryan Nelsen...how I wish we had another 9 with his spirit (and with Mackie added in too). The spirit alone could get us to 17th
I said this after the game. cesar on goal.. 5 nelsen`s and 5 mackie`s we might not win but we know they will give it 100%.
I think Cesar cares. Maybe less about QPR than hismown reputation but, just for the moment, that is fine. He cares when one flies by him. You can tell from the reaction. He almost gets as annoyed as Joe Hart!!
I like Cesar. Don't be fooled by his appearance, I think he's quite laid back but cares v much. Potentially the best keeper we've ever had, just imagine if he was playing behind a solid back 4 / 5 he would fantastic. More worryingly, even more people seem to be agreeing with Flyer.......strange times indeed.
Normally agree with you but not today. On current form Cesar is a reasonable keeper but is no longer one of the world's best. He has been at fault for several goals IMO and has a habit of taking risks. Decision making also seems suspect: I think most of us noticed on Saturday when he chose to punch in a situation where it was far easier to catch and made a hash of it. Problematic as Green can be I don't think it was worth upsetting everything so much to bring in Cesar.
Well you have the advantage on me AAAARRRRRGGHHH of being at the match whereas I was listening to the rugby. I don't think Brazilian national keepers / CL winners become average overnight, do you not feel the general air of malaise has affected him too?
Good point, Nines. Flyer went out on a limb and was right. I, for one, admit to having been a bit star struck by the names coming in. Young players with potential who are keen to make it, with QPR as their club, ARE preferable to players on their way down who find it demeaning to have to play for a smaller club and hold their nose while they take the money (one ex-Chelsea defender springs to mind). Occasionally you get a good older one e.g. Nelsen
It WASN'T JUST FLYER!!! "Are any of us - if we're totally and utterly 100% honest - not an incy wincy bit concerned at our current transfer policy? My head is telling me to cop on and enjoy the Club finally having money to buy decent players but my gut is telling me that prudence and youth is always the way to go. I just hope it all works out and that Hughes and the Board know what they're doing." Swords Hoopster 11/8/12 And there are many more Nines!
Fair play to you, Swords, that was a prescient quote. But Flyer did seem to be chairman of the 18 (but not) 30 club Truth is, a blend of youth and experience is best. I can't help feeling now that Harry Rednapp would get more out of some of the old war horses than Hughes has. Zamora says he's fallen out of love with football. I wonder whether he really means, he's fallen out of love with football under the present set up at QPR
