A split view from Gills fans on this one so which side of the debate do you fall... Choose via the poll, Flitney or Forecast between the sticks for the Gills on Saturday against Preston, other people will be able to see your vote by clicking on the poll numbers? My selection is Forecast for being a patient bench warmer, I feel anything else would be an insult to the guy.
The whole of French football is in uproar because Loris (the national goalie) has been sat on the bench most weeks at Tottenham and everyone knows that goalies have to play every week to be match sharp. Gills have Southampton's 4th choice on loan who played a first team game on 4 Sept and had a few minutes as sub last week. Flitney has played the last 5 games for Eastleigh and proved himself thoroughly competent in the first half of last season for Gills. How could there be any debate? (Unless of course the loan deal contains a commitment that Forecast will be automatic second choice in which case fair enough). As an interesting aside for Gills fans I see Richard Hill is Eastleigh Manager...now how many people think that Gills decline from a mid table Championship side corresponded with his departure from Priestfield?
Bristol407 i don't think Richard hill leaving us had any impact on what outcome we had. after he left us the richard lived in Oxfordshire and ended up managing a team called witney utd (simon kings area of growing up) to which he ended up getting the sack and i think hill also had something to do with the QPR youth set up and was also relieving him of his duties for some suspect reason !
Oh well that was a short lived poll and end of debate, Forecast plays Saturday, see last paragraph...http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/sport/2012/november/27/tommy_forecast.aspx?
I think Richard Hill was coach at Tranmere and then Reading after the Gills. Then he went off to be Asst Manager at QPR and got involved in a punch up with a visiting Chinese Team which nearly caused World War 3 and was fired as an act of diplomacy. He was then Technical Advisor to the Ethiopia national team before going off to manage in Azerbijan so it was hardly a decline after Gills. The mystery for me was why Gills ditched him at the peak of their all time performances. It was never explained and Gills never reached the same heights afterwards
BSG/brb I would not challenge the prediction but I might expose the feeble thinking that seems to be going on. I hope Forecast has a blinder on Saturday
I wouldn't put 100% certainty on that article. MA has praised players in the past then put them on the bench. However, I think Tommy Forecast should be played on Saturday. Absolutely no point having him here if he's not given a chance to play. And as I've said elsewhere, I'm not going to judge him on the say-so of other clubs fans. We wouldn't have Stuart Nelson or Charlie Allen in the side if we did that.
I have it on good authority that it will be........ either Tommy Forecast, Ross Flitney or Darren Hawkes.
I wonder, however ,if we would have taken Forecast in the first place if Flitney had not got an injury that was going to take a few months to clear up. I would suspect not, so therefore Flitney would be the No2 to Nelson, and may get the nod Saturday. If he does, then Forecast might as well be sent back as Flitney will remain as back up, and if he doesn't, then Flitney might as well be loaned out with probably a move away in January. Not sure what is going to happen with Darren Hawkes though, as you would have expected him to have come in as backup on Saturday.
Ok, this is quite simple for me,as per MA's words on the O/S... http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/article/martin-fans-quotes-post-accrington-511703.aspx They had some long range efforts as you would expect but Tommy is a great pro, a great lad and he will play next Saturday. Tommy is a good goalkeeper who has trained very hard and is getting better and better. He’s very popular with the players in the dressing room – he has been very patient and now deserves an opportunity to go and do his stuff. Now MA could change his mind, although to do so might raise some questions.
vinney. Do not dare to come on here and talk common sense! Of course Forecast is only here to cover for Fliney's injury and Flitney is now fit. Of course it makes no point Forecast being here and not getting a game if a vacancy occurs.....the only thing is that is a Southampton argument not a Gillingham argument. The Gillingham argument is why are we giving Southampton's goalie match practice so that our goalie (who we have sent out on loan to get match practice) sits on the bench having interrupted his loan spell designed to give him match practice. Let me try a bit of this strange concept called common sense. EITHER declare now the intention to sign Forecast and release Flitney in January OR release Forecast back to Southampton now so that Flitney can understudy and maybe compete with Nelson. Common sense has some merit but it will never catch on
