First off this is not me comparing his all round ability to that of others purely his finishing which is proving to be outstanding. The way he took down the ball and put it in the corner yesterday was very Van Persie-esque and I don't think there are that many others in the league that get so little service but score so many goals ( he was the same at Wolves). Really clinical finisher. There are not many other strikers in the league that score time after time on their first chance and for me he's up there with the likes of Van Persie, Demba Ba, and Defoe in terms of finishing ability. 12m well spent.
it's early days yet mate.. a good start though yes. he's not exactly set the world on fire in the PL over a season yet though so May will be the time to judge.
Still only 4 games in marra. I personally think his goal yesterday was excellent, not really because of the finish, but because of the touch and the positioning. The keeper could have saved the shot really, but it was still a great shot considering the angle he was at. A good finish, but his 1st goal vs Swansea was the best goal so far IMO, despite being a CB mistake. I think Fletch is one of the better finishers. I think RVP is the best, Cisse, Defoe and Aguero are after that. Ba and Fletcher are in the same league, the best of the rest. I'd still wait a bit before judging Fletchy as a striker, but his instincts and positioning are unquestionable.
Cisse got 13 league goals in half a season, Fletcher has never achieved that in a full season (his best return is 12). Both good players mind, although also very different players. Fletcher leads the line better but Cisse is quicker and is much more two footed than Fletcher, both are good finishers.
Again... too early to judge but you are entitled to your opinion. Let's pick this up at the end of the season when we both have something to judge. There's an old saying... one swallow doesn't make a summer...
And Fletcher has never received the service Ba or Cisse have enjoyed. I'm sure we could both come up with all the excuses/explanations under the sun but I'd rather enjoy the fact that we both have strikers who know where the goal is
No he's not. Cisse's had a slow start, Fletcher's had a good start, and that automatically makes Fletcher better? Anyway, we're talk about finishing ability here, and we all know that Cisse is on a different level of finishing ability to any other player on our side and your side, when he is on form. As I said, RVP the best, Aguero/Defoe/Cisse 2nd, 3rd, 4th, can't decide.
This is the 4th EPL season in a row Fletcher has scored goals at this level though. Cisse had an incredible burst onto the scene in January and 13 in 13 is remarkable. However, second season syndrome seems to have hit him and 0 in 4 and not really looking dangerous should be a worry to you (watch him get a hat trick today now Lol) Ba has proved himself over a season and a half at W Ham and at your place and is a much better footballer than Cisse imo. Cisse is more like Bent was for us. Great when he was scoring but offers nothing to the team when he isn't. Ba leads the line and fights like Fletcher AND scores goals.
If Cisse doesn't score today against a poor Norwich team and has 5 straight blanks then I'd be concerned if I were a mag (and thank the gods I'm not). 2nd season syndrome has certainly set in for your 'top' striker. Ba is a far better player imo.
Does that mean McClean is a bang average player and was just a flash in the pan last season based on the old "second season syndrome"?
Mcclean may well be a flash in the pan. I'm not fully convinced. Anyway my point would be that we need to get more support to fletcher. Nobody seems to want to get near him? I'm unsure if either Sess or Mcclean have found him with a pass yet!
My point is that McClean is a good player, he isn't a flash in the pan he's just in a bad run of form. As is Cisse, as the old saying goes form is temporary, class is permanent. Fletcher will certainly go more than 4 or 5 games without scoring given his record return of league goals in any full season is 12, will that mean he's a bad player? No it won't, it will just mean he'll have hit a rough patch of form. People writing Cisse off will end up with egg on their face, just like those who also write McClean or any other decent player off for that matter.
