Last Updated: August 3, 2012 5:19pm Sky Sports understands Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton is poised to seal his loan switch to Fleetwood Town. As revealed by skysports.com last month, Fleetwood were lining up a shock move for Barton after he linked up with them for pre-season training. QPR are thought to be happy to loan out the controversial midfielder after incidents on the final day of last term resulted in him being banned for 12 matches for two counts of violent conduct. Barton was stripped of the QPR captaincy and has been left out of Mark Hughes's squad for their pre-season plans. A number of clubs are thought to have expressed an interest in signing Barton on loan, but Fleetwood have managed to persuade the former Manchester City and Newcastle man to make the move to the League Two newcomers. The move is thought to be have been ratified by the Football League and Barton is set to join the Cod Army on a six-month loan deal until January. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11711/7960321? It's still only a "Sky Sports understands" story. But no smoke without fire. Waiting for the offish.
This is on the on another thread about Barton and Fleetwood, with this from the BBc: "" 3 August 2012 Last updated at 16:04 GMT Share this page 74ShareFacebookTwitter.print..Joey Barton set for Fleetwood Town loan move Comments (7) Joey Barton is set to sign a six-month loan deal with League Two Fleetwood from QPR, BBC Radio Lancashire reports. The 29-year-old midfielder is due to serve a 12-match suspension at the start of the season and will return to action sooner at the Cod Army because they play more games early on. He could now return on 6 October or sooner, six weeks earlier than if he stayed at QPR. The loan deal is expected to be finalised over the weekend. Barton played 45 minutes of Fleetwood's friendly with Kilmarnock on Tuesday and is now hopeful of playing against Tranmere in Saturday's friendly. When could Barton return now? Joey Barton could make his Fleetwood debut against Cheltenham at Saturday, 6 October (sooner if they have a cup run), whereas 17 November's game with Southampton would have been his return date if he stayed at Loftus Road The one-time England international agreed to join the Football League newcomers for a week during pre-season, but was not expected to play a match. He knows several Fleetwood players from his younger days and has a close friendship with Cod Army forward Andy Mangan. Barton was sent off on the final day of last season as QPR lost at Manchester City and was later found guilty of two counts of violent conduct by the Football Association. The midfielder was initially shown a red card for an off-the-ball clash with City striker Carlos Tevez and incidents with Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany came after Barton had been dismissed. He received a four-match ban for the foul on Tevez and another eight for his further offences. Fleetwood Town Home: Highbury Stadium, 5,094-capacity Average attendance 2011-12: 2,264 Why was 2011-12 Fleetwood's most successful season? Declared Blue Square Bet Premier champions with two games remaining and reached the third round of the FA Cup after knocking out Football League clubs Wycombe and Yeovil Rangers fined Barton six weeks' wages and stripped him of the club captaincy, as well as leaving him out of the squad for their pre-season tour of Malaysia. Barton would be eligible to make his competitive Cod Army debut against Cheltenham on Saturday, 6 October - or could even return in September if they have runs in the League Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Had he stayed at Loftus Road, the 17 November game against Southampton would have been his return date barring progress in the League Cup. When the idea was first mooted, former Manchester City defender Danny Mills told BBC Sport: "If it was me I would say it was a great idea. It's not against the rules, some might argue it's against the spirit of the game, but until that loophole is closed then why would you not exploit it?" ""
Near to Liverpool so I guess that helps. Had to be a half season loan otherwise it would just be using another club and we'd get him back without match fitness. A bit of lower league football might also make him realise what he's got and also give him the responsibility of being the senior member of a small club (if he wasn't last year). Getting some good out of a bad situation - good management.
From joey twitter @Joey7Barton: BBC news jumping the gun a bit. I've not signed for Fleetwood. Just currently enjoying training there...
joey has denied it on twitter.. could be a bit of a scam involved if its an official loan for 6 months- it might enable us to recall him after he has served 12 game ban.. or not depending how hargreaves and dyer do..
I'm probably being really stupid here but how does it work ? Does he actually play for Fleetwood in matches ? If so then surely he isnt banned ? Or is it just Premier league matches he is banned from therefore if he plays in the football league it counts as a game missed ?? If he doesnt actually play in matches for Fleetwood then whats in it for them ? Someone please help me out here
His ban is over quicker if he goes there so he will be able to get match fitness a couple of weeks earlier. Then he can come back in Jan and be up to speed and hopefully sold to someone.
