It says nearly £600m debt is in the Championship - which averages out at £25m per club - if this is true how does our debt of half that feature as such a great problem?

Maybe because we were trying to get our house in order a couple of years ago , so are a bit further down the austerity road! The problem being most championship clubs are owned by people with money! that love the club they own ! We havent had this magical formula since SEJ!
£600m for the whole of the championship! Man Utd are £720m in the red on their own!

I think this is terrible news, because we were comfortably going to voluntarily meet these constraints anyway.

I don't even want to know how much debt Cardiff, Ipswich (I think), Pompey and West Ham are carrying. That'll be near enough £150m I'd imagine.

Still worrying figures, although as with any statistics they can be spun however you want.

I'd imagine most people in this area of the world are/were "in debt" of figures ten times their income in the way of mortgages.

Not that I think clubs are being run responsibly, and I do think the aforementioned need to stop spending stupid money on the Bellamys and such, but most companies are "in debt" yet still make good profits while declaring losses.

I think this is great news. Hopefully in a few years we will be ready for the rules to come in while others will be playing catch up. With our Academy, we are already in a perfect postion to live within our means, and will be far more competitive if other teams can't splash out as they have been!

Well, it's the Football League, so won't hold my breath! In theory it is a good idea, and teams like us who are already trying to be self-sustainable should be in a good position where other teams will find it hard to cut back. our only problem is teams will look at the like's at Malky who has experience of working with a tight budget so will be even more sought after - but then by the time this comes in, unlikely he will still be here, unfortunately!!
