Who do we want first? Home or away? Who do we want for the last match? Personally I don't want to start away in the north east. I'd also not want the usual relegation fodder at the end of the season. Wet Spam at home would be an ideal starter. What do others think?
I'd rather have an easy start and a hard finish than vice versa. A hard start will inevitable mean huge pressure on whoever the new manager is. If we're in the bottom half / mid-table after 7/8/9 games, there will be big pressure, even if (hypothetically) those 7 games included Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea away.. So a comfortable first few games please!
Chelsea - away Man city - Home Man Utd - away Liverpool - Home Newcastle - away Arsenal - Home would be a great start to the season
I'd definitely take Chelsea on early but I'd prefer to have them second game with an easier team first so we can hopefully have the comfort of having already won a game when we play them. I wouldn't want to be away at a newly promoted team though, their fans will be fired up and some of them pack a surprise in the first couple of weeks, maybe someone like Villa or Wigan would be good to open with.
hmmmm...dunno what to think of that...currently the only advantage i can think of is that we wont be wearing that hideous 3rd kit! but its a place we can get a result at if we catch em cold..like the last day of a season..the first one also can spring a few surprises...
August 18 Newcastle (A) 25 West Brom (H) September 1 Norwich (H) 15 Reading (A) 22 QPR (H) 29 Man Utd (A) October 6 Aston Villa (H) 20 Chelsea (H) 27 Southampton (A) November 3 Wigan (H) 10 Man City (A) 17 Arsenal (A) 24 West Ham (H) 27 Liverpool (H) December 1 Fulham (A) 8 Everton (A) 15 Swansea (H) 22 Stoke (H) 26 Aston Villa (A) 29 Sunderland (A) January 1 Reading (H) 12 QPR (A) 19 Man Utd (H) 29 Norwich (A) February 2 West Brom (A) 9 Newcastle (H) 23 West Ham (A) March 2 Arsenal (H) 9 Liverpool (A) 16 Fulham (H) 30 Swansea (A) April 6 Everton (H) 13 Chelsea (A) 20 Man City (H) 27 Wigan (A) May 4 Southampton (H) 12 Stoke (A) 19 Sunderland (H)
i think that is a pretty decent start and gives us a very good chance of having a solid start with the teams that follow the Toon match. COYS.
No but I should have done. They often do that to us. It's always a difficult start playing away at up there.
yeah the first 5 games could have been worse. November looks tricky though. 4 games in 17 days, city and arsenal back to back, both away! followed by west ham, and what is likely to be an improved liverpool. ouch.... 10 Man City (A) 17 Arsenal (A) 24 West Ham (H) 27 Liverpool (H)
we get North East teams to kick off our season(Newcastle) and to end it(Sunderland) Newcastle get 2 North london teams.... to start (us) and end their season(Arsenal) i always suspect something dodgy with this fixture computer and this season is no diffrent.
I don't remember the last time we had an easy first fixture. 2007-2008 - sunderland (A) 2008-2009 - Middlesborough (A)(ramos era! ahh!) 2009-2010 - liverpool (H) 2010-2011 - Man city (H) 2011-2012 - Everton (H) (ended up being Man united (A), and obviously Everton would have been tough as well!!) 2012-2013 - Newcastle (A)
This is always likely to happen due to the complicated parameters of picking fixtures due to policing, rivals home/away etc etc. Pretty much every season there is something similar. Didn't North London play Manchester at the same time last season?
Decent first 5 games, I think. Newcastle away's gonna be tough but in someways it might be good for the players to start with a game where a draw's still a good result and it's followed up with two games at home which should allow us to cover for any lost points in the opener.
