Our transfer business must surely be coming to a close soon, perhaps with the exception of Dawson and a few squad players That being said, with the team we have now (plus dawson if you like since that seem inevitable) What would you starting 11 be? Lets say.... one against teams we should be beating like burnley, palace, west ham.... leicester And one to try and get a point against the top sides
This is based on us signing Dawson. --------------McGregor -------Dawson---------Davies Elmo-------------------------Brady ----Livermore-----Huddlestone Snodgrass---------------------Ince --------Jelavic---------Long ---------------------------- ------------------McGregor -----Dawson-------Chester------Davies Elmohamady-------------------------Brady ----------------Huddlestone ---------Livermore------Meyler -----------Snodgrass -------------------Jelavic
You do realise that even in the furthest pockets of the Europa League we can still only play with 11 players? Also, why are people playing Brady as an out and out left back? I'm not sure he's defensively minded enough to play there as a full LB. In a 3-5-2 I'd go for: -------------McGregor------------ --------Chester -----Davies----Dawson ---- ---Elmo---------------------------------Brady ------------Livermore -----Huddlestone ----------------Snodgrass------------- -----------Long ---------Jelavic------- OR, in a 4-4-2 McGregor Elmohamady Davies Chester Rosenior Snodgrass Livermore Huddlestone Brady Jelavic Long
I like this. -----------McGregor------------- ----Chester, Davies, Dawson----- --Snodgrass -------------Brady-- --Livermore, Huddlestone, Ince--- -------Jelly--------- Long--------
Forgot to take out Long and Ince. The second would be playing against the top teams. You can't afford to play two up front against the top teams and it would be great to be able to bring on Long as an impact sub. You would get enough attacking movement and creativity from Elmo, Brady, Huddlestone and Snodgrass with Jelavic more likely to hold the ball up and get on the end of crosses. But also get enough solidness and tenacious defending from the three centre backs, Meyler, Huddlestone and Livermore.
Are there any of our reserve players that are getting to the point when they could be making the bench?
McGregor Chester Jelavic Livermore Huddlestone Davies Snodgrass Long Rosenior Ince Brady Or against the top teams McGregor Snodgrass Aluko Brady Huddlestone Jelavic Ince Davies Long Livermore Chester
I don't see all these options fitting in the same team. We seem to be building a squad with strength in depth. Teams don't really have a first XI now anyway and even if they did, injuries are so common you rarely ever see one. The interesting thing for me is how Snodgrass and Ince are going to fit in. Both will surely expect to play most games as marquee signings, but both are right sided, left footed attacking midfielders. I reckon Ince is more likely to play somewhere different but striker and midfield options are well covered. Something will have to give.
It was mentioned above about not playing Brady at LB. Didn't Ferguson tell Brucie he was training him to be a LB? Not arguing, just asking a question.

Assuming Dawson signs I'd like to see us line up in the following 3-5-2 against QPR on opening day McGregor Chester Dawson Davies Elmo Ince Livermore Huddlestone Snodgrass Long Jelavic Jakupovic Rosenior McShane Meyler Brady Boyd/Quinn Aluko
I've been thinking the same, although I think Tom is more naturally a left sided player. I would have thought it'd be one or the other, but I guess when quality players are available and you can afford them you don't turn your nose up, specially not when you're a club like us. I would have liked to have seen a right footer come in but I won't moan. When you look through our wide options now we have all these left footers Snotarse Ince Brady Aluko Boyd Quinn Then Elmo is the only right footer I reckon Boyd and Quinn could well be packing their bags though.
Greggles Chezzles Dawsles Davieles Incles Huddles Liveles Braddles ---------Snoddles -------Longles Jelles orles Quite aware that Rosieles , Meyles , Alules and Emoles dont feature in my XI pretty concerned we may not get control the ball in midfield maybe Chezzles Dawsles Davieles Incles Huddles Meyles Liveles Braddles ---------Snoddles -------Longles
Why is everyone forgetting Aluko? I reckon he'll have a big season & surprise a few people, I would certainly put him above Ince & at least equal to Snodgrass at this moment. He's really got the lot if his head is right...
Steve Bruce will have a top 10 PL squad by the end of august and for sure it will be a horses for courses issue in some cases as to who plays when and where. The thursday / sunday lark will also play a part not to mention suspensions and injuries. Being in the EL group stages and a run in the coc and SB will need everyone of the squad. IMO and on ability alone the best 11 SB can field is thus : - 3 - 5 - 2 McGregor Chester Dawson Davies(c) Elmohamady Huddlestone Livermore Snodgrass Brady Aluko Long
