We need a new striker now, the end of the transfer window is too long! We have 3 games including Leicester at home (Will Lambert be out for Cardiff too, does the cup game at Coventry count?) where we won't have Lambert and Barnard obviously, so with only Connolly (off form), Guly (lack of confidence from fan abuse) and Forte (well...) to play up front! Any rumours on who's in talks with saints up front? I want Jutzkiwiez for his passion or Rhodes cos he looks quality personally.
Welcome. The cup game does count. I'm sure these thoughts are also happening in Nigel's head, we have been lucky that Rickie has pretty much been constantly available since he joined us. I think the next few weeks will be a massive test for Adkins, but I am also still sure that he will be able to turn it around.
Ched Evans anyone? Scoring goals for fun now hes back fit at Sheff Utd. Would be confident of him going straight in, big physical presence and would (I imagine) be happy to play as second fiddle once Rickie is back fit. Just a thought
Didn't he rape a women? Not someone I want in my team. Also since when has connoly become off form!? He's played 1 full game since his return from injury?!
What do we do if we can't get a striker in before the next few games? Is Forte good enough? Is Hoskins ready?
Oh... I had not heard this! Maybe not then!!! I did mean just as a replacement for Lambo while he's suspended tbh, so would be him and Conners up front. Ok so I would think that Nige would bring in someone who is currently playing in England as we are going to want them to come straight in rather than take time bedding in and getting used to English football. Anyone got any other names?
If we dont get anyone, we will most likely have Forte and Connolly up front IMO with Guly injured Saturday will be a chance to see what Hoskins & Doble can do, if they impress they may get their chance in the League
Don't worry, take a look at the following article I've just read on the BBC Sports site under the "Transfer Gossip" section Japan striker Tadanari Lee, who scored the winning goal in last year's Asian Cup final against Australia in Doha, could be joining Southampton after agreeing terms with the Championship side, according to reports in Japan. Saints must now obtain a work permit for the 26-year-old. (Nikkan Sports newspaper)
I keep seeing this recurring statement about players we may want as back up to xxx - please tell me players that would be happy to assume a role as back up that we would want to take our club forward - my understanding is that NA wants players to take us forward, competition - why should we be looking for back up - wrong message this sends out i feel.
Tbf to Forte, I thought he really tried when he came on today. But it was still perfectly clear that he's just not cut out for this level. Even if he started all 46 games, I wouldn't expect him to get into double-figures on the goalscoring charts. We needed a striker and a winger even before today, but looking at our bench today and looking how we play without Lambert up front, just brought it home even more.
We need more then one striker tbh, Guly now out aswell leaving us with connolly and forte. Doesn't fill with confidence at all.
Im not exactly sure what position Guly was playing today, but it suited him perfectly. I thought he and Lallana controlled the midfield for us in the first half.
