LUFC McCarthy would like striker to return

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy says he would like Noel Hunt to return to the club from Leeds United this month.

Hunt made his final appearance for Ipswich on Tuesday night in their 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic when he came on as a late substitute.

The former Republic of Ireland international is out of contract in the summer and it looks likely that Leeds will release him from his contract this month, allowing him to join Ipswich. McCarthy says he is now waiting to see what both Leeds and the player want to do.

"I haven`t had that discussion with anybody yet", McCarthy said after Hunt`s last appearance on Tuesday night.

'We took him until January 3rd. It`s up to them what they want to do with him, and up to Hunty, to be fair.

"He`s done all right, he scored the winner at Charlton, he`s had a couple of sub appearances and I like him. It`s up to them, see what they want to do."

The striker has been on loan at Portman Road since November with his Leeds career seemingly over after eighteen months at Elland Road, where he failed to score in 22 appearances.

The 31-year-old admitted he felt his career at Leeds was over when he joined Ipswich on loan and he made an instant impression for the tractor boys when he scored an injury time winner on his debut at Charlton Athletic.

He made four substitute appearances during his time at Portman Road.

Happy New Year WJ hope its a very good one!
I hope we sign 3 players a wideman Knockeart would do or Gray from Brum who is destined to become a great player
A central mid field player Andrews or Krhl seems to be the choice which means Austin and Murphy going
A strike who can head a ball Pavoretti seems to be the man
Out Norris Hunt I think Macca is playing some kind of game whereby we pay most of his contract up whilst they will pay the rest .He knows we want rid So he holds all the chips

Birmingham City have rejected a £1.5m bid from Bournemouth for winger Demarai Gray. You need to get real, we are not allowed to pay a fee for anyone, we are only allowed to sign a loan player or someone out of contract FREE

Rene Krhin on loan till the end of the season - He has played two games in 2014, we have no idea how good he might be BUT how long to get him match fit?

This is the January window its the toughest of them all <ok> no club wants to lose decent players now <yikes> you can pick up decent players who are nearing the end of their contracts and havnt yet signed a new one with their present club. <ok> but the club will only do this if there is a fee because they can walk at the end of the season for nothing,, they will NOT give them away now unless they are crap and not wanted like HUNT <laugh> unwanted freebies and other clubs deadwood is all you can have, thats why the embargo is now and not the summer <ok>

We just bought a young 24 year old lad a winger from Wycombe scored 5 goals in his last 6 games, His contract is up in the summer but we could give Wycombe dosh so they took it <ok> in the summer he would have been a free agent and other clubs like yourselves could have snapped him up but money talks <laugh>

Thought you might have signed enough none league and 4th division players in the summer, none of them made the grade and got you 3rd from bottom, but they may be ok in league 1 next season.
