The frist time i saw QPR live was at Highbury in 1984 when we won 6 2 It was my 14th birthday birthday present from my cousin The things i remember were drinking a pint in the terraces. £2.50 to get in and what a goal from Warren Neill Anyone else got good memories from there first game
I can't remember my first game. It was in black and white. I was aged two in 1968, I think it was against Preston. The first game I consciously remember was against Southampton in 1973. The new South Africa Road stand had just opened and I sat on the wall behind the away goal in the school end. It was the first game of the season, I remember the songs blaring from the tannoy... '' You can do magic magic, I'm leaving on a jet plane, and We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun'' it finished 0-0.
Can't remember rmuch about my first games in the 74/75 season. First I remember clearly was the when we beat Liverpool 2-0 first game of the 75/76 season and we scored the goal of the season. Great start!
It was a mid-week game against West Brom or Man City in autumn/early winter 1973, under the humming floodlights. Both were friendlies. I just don't remember which one came first. I do remember Stan the Man curling a free-kick around the inside of the wall with the outside of his boot in one of them. Close my eyes and I see it now. The game has changed so much. What top-flight club would schedule friendlies mid-week, in the middle of a season, now?
Boxing Day, 1980. 14th place in (then known as) second division QPR thrashed divisional leaders WHU 3-0. My history of supporting QPR was less than a year old then but I was thrilled (I'd been offered Fulham home to one of the Sheffield teams or QPR but I was already a known QPR supporter to the Ealingners I was visiting). Watched from School End as there were major renovations in Loft back then. Expected trouble from away supporters but it never occurred - maybe because it was Christmas and there was all that goodwill to all men thing going on For the record my last match was an appalling 1-1 draw against Peterborough United 3 seasons ago. Sat one seat east of midfield, very front row on Ellerslie Road side. The bos office had misread my address (my Canadian address looks like an English address - I live in a rather small city called London and our post office has obliged by using postal codes based on Britain's - London Canada are all N5 or N6 to start. My tickets were lost. my attempts to replace them werediificult, I got the best seat I've ever had at LR and we drew. First game my wife ever went to - but we are planning a possible trip over next season. Hope springs...
Versus Wolves on the plastic pitch in the early-mid 80s. Upper Loft. Won 2-1 I think. I only remember Wickes goal which was a downward header from a corner. launched into the roof of the net after bouncing off the plastic pitch. My brother a Chelsea fan went with me and he was not impressed with the stick dished out to Mike Fillery.
Last match of season at Loftus Rd 1978. 0-0 draw Vs Leeds to stay up and relegate West Ham. Standing below the old Loft. School End still uncovered. Great atmosphere and great day.
do not remember the year but it was a home game vs Sheff Wed in 1988 and it finished 1-1. I have followed thi sup and no word of a lie every live game I see at Loftus Road ends up in a draw...
Arsenal v Manchester United, Arsenal won 5-2 Bobby Charlton and all, the next game was QPR......been hooked on Rangers ever since.
QPR 5 Newcastle 5 Saturday 22nd September 1984. I used to go to Ellerslie School and got free tickets every week :0)
QPR v Cardiff City 1972, aged 11. Sat in South Africa Road Stand, Ellerslie stand under construction. Instant addiction in promotion season. And, thanks to the magic of YouTube, here it is..... Some good shots of the old ground in here,School End terracing looks huge. Blimey, wasn't Stan good.
QPR 2 ManUre 3 Oct 68. I was 14 and made my own way there from Brixton, walking part of the way as my 2/6 pocket money didn't quite stretch to getting a programme. Arriving home after 7.00pm I got the mother of all bollockings from mother...
