A lot of talk has been going on about "who would partner Bendtner" but if the lad wont be here next season then what is the point in searching then splashing out on a player only for Bendtner to leave at the end of the season, then we would be back to square one really.

Will we sign Bendtner permanently after his loan spell?

Will Bendtner himself want to sign permanently?

Could Whickham make the step up and take his place?

How much should we pay for him?

I'm sure I read that there's an £8m pre agreement in place for him which gives us the option to buy him at the end (it was reported in a number of places) - Might just be paper talk though

I think £8m is a fair price for a proven EPL striker; established international and at his age, comfortably within the clubs long term planning. I'd be making a bid in January if the lad is comfortable here but I guess it all boils down to money and player willingness. I have long been an admirer of Bendtner as a target man but he may not have the goals in his tank to do it alone.

I have just said on another thread, there is little point in us looking towards these lads like Cisse, just for them to want to piss off after 10 mins. Far better we recruit lads with a little fire in their belly and desire to be here.

My top 2 targets would be Scott Sinclair (Swansea) and Craig Mackail-Smith (Brighton). Lads who wouldnt cost the earth, have a real desire to come (IMO SAFC is a far bigger proposition than either Swansea or Brighton will ever be and no disrespect intended) and both would get stuck in.

Sinclair solves our width problem and Smith a good striking option. Job done.

I do suppose however how close Frazier Campbell is to coming back and how he is when he does.

Its all rumours etc but im pretty sure we dont have a view to permanent clause in as this has never been our strategy in the past.

Only thing that may get us him a little bit cheaper is Wenger's erge to get rid of him and the disruption he would cause if he returned.

Personally I think he will move on to a European club in the Summer, which there is nothing wrong as we will just have to accept that but he could fall in love with the city & club.

I think he will have a decent season by all accounts, 10 goals and he has already chipped in with 2 assists.

PS Cest - Yeah I think 8mill is a fair price in todays market.

But for every Bent/Gyan you get a Sess (who said when he joined he didnt mind taking a paycut after a year or 2 you will see how good I am and will have to up my wage) mind you that may mean he buggers off if we cant afford to keep him.

Finding players from lower leagues that can be a success in the PL, is getting harder and harder, the step up is huge these days, especialy for those that have never played in the PL before IE: not came up, then went down, and moved to a new club.

    its catch 22 for me

Get someone in from abroad and they will probably have good pedigree, and hit the ground running, but may bugger off if they get a better pay deal in the not too distant future.

Get someone from the lower leagues, who will probably be loyal but may not be good enough for the rigours of the PL.

If we want Europe I would say go for the 1st kind, if they get us there, they may stay, but we have more chance of getting there for me with them than the 2nd option.

If we just want loyalty, and mid table mediocrity for the next few years (no relegation fears i suppose) then got for the 2nd option.

IMO a lot will depend on the next few months, if Sunderland have their wits about them, I know, they will decide in January. Bendtner doing well, enjoying himself then get him signed up, I'm sure Arsenal would be happy to take 8 mil.

If we wait until summer and Bendtner is doing well we can be sure bigger fish will come calling then maybe Bendy will be happy and stay, but maybe he wont.

Like Cest I would love a big name signing, a superstar, but would question if they see us as a stepping stone, a Doyle would do me fine.

What gets me is, nearly everyone is saying we need a 20 goal a season striker, and then on the other hand a Long or Doyle type will do, we may as well go and get leon best from the toon imo if that is what we are going to set our sights on.

If they come, shoot us to 6-9th with 20+ Goals and get us a cup run, then they go to a Man U or Man City (or similar), good for them, its their career, its when they come, do the business and then bugger off to Aston Villa (who i think we are a match for) and the UAE that pisses me off.

We need to buy a partnership. I've been against the idea before of going for K.Doyle but he strikes be as a forward who would work well with any type of striker and would do the graft for his partner. If we could land a Doyle for say 8m id like us to go push the boat out for a goalscorer, a papis demba cisse type.

With Bendtner I can't see us landing him permanently, he either does well for us and thus wants his move to a champions league team, or he doesn't do well so we don't want to spend big bucks to tie him down.

I hear what your saying Sess but IMO we already have 2 players at that standard in Wickham and JI. Craig Mackail-Smith might be scoring in the Championship but so was Wickham, its a big step up and we need a proven goal scorer at a higher level. Scott Sinclair is a good prospect but I would like to see what this McClean lad can do first.

IMO we need to get in someone like Owen who is proven has experience and can get us through the last 4 months of the season, we can re-assess the striker situation in the summer when we know the following:

    1. How much we get for Gyan
    2. Will Campbell make it back
    3. Have Ji or Wickham stepped up.
    4. Does Bendtner want to stay, do we want to keep him?

I think with the above all up in the air another loan to see out the season would be sensible, it worked for Bolton with Sturidge last year.

Sorry lads I'm just keeping it to Bendtner, there is already another thread for a partner for him, just want to see what people think Bruce should do.

I would want to keep him personally but as mentioned there are lots of factors affecting that decision so lets just hope we get the best out of him for this season at least.
