So i was filling out my fantasy football team just now, and like most of us decided to have a Saints striker, midfielder and defender. For me, Clyne and Lallana, check. Trying to choose a striker proved more difficult, and made me think how much harder the decision must be for Nigel . With a 4-2-3-1 apparently being considered it would suggest we would be having a lone striker (Rickie?) with the possibility of Jay Rod/Lee playing on the wings and cutting inside. I cant see Sharp playing out wide, so for me the decision Nigel will need to make each week (assuming this is the shape we will be going for) will be Rickie vs Sharp up top, and Rodriguez vs Lee playing as the wide inside forward. Sharp has looked far more impressive up top than Rickie in preseason but i cant see him being chosen above him.
At the end of last season I would have assumed our strikers would be Lambert + 1, but now I am not so sure. Will feel happier when Rickie scores, perhaps starting in the Wolves game.
If we play 4-2-3-1 , Lambert will be in th three and Rodriguez up front, with 4-3-3 both up front. I feel Sharp will be the one missing out.
That was the shape we played against Arsenal i believe..? Would you prefer Lambert or Lallana in the central role though? Id personally prefer Lallana..
I've put Kelvin Davies, Jay Rod and Lallana in mine. I think I'll leave Davies out for the first game though
From what Nigel has said in interviews the 5 man midfield is an extra system to deploy along with the flat 4-4-2 & diamond. I would not jump the gun and say that the new 4-5-1 will be the default but rather only to be used against the top sides. I expect two up top against wigan for example and in the vast majority of home games. Lambert for pens for the fantasy team
For fantasy football, Fox could be worth a shot as he'll get a few assists from set plays. I'd be happy to stick with the team that did well against Ajax. ---------------Davis----------------- Clyne----Fonte----Hooiveld----Fox ------------JWP----Morgan--------- Guly---------Lallana-----Rodriguez -------------Lambert---------------- Lambert to absorb into the midfield and Guly/Rodriguez to get forward when needed. Rodriguez not really a winger, but imo Lambert +1 would be a step back. He has the quality to do well there though and will be able to break free when Lambert gets absorbed deeper.
I have put Clyne, Lallana and Lambert in mine. Who cares about winning the fantasy league, SAINTS ARE BACK!
There's a Fantasy Football on Facebook which me and my mates do every year. Came second two seasons ago, won it last season . It's good to finally see the Southampton players on there (However, they seem to have forgotten about Sharp and Lee...)
