WFC have announced the players they have released

    http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...ben_and_McGinn_head_up_Watford_released_list/

Interestingly, Doyley and Eustace are not on the least, which shows they are negotiating at least. Yeates is going, which I think is a shame as although I am not a particular fan, he is one of the few players on that list who competed for a place in the team and did make the matchday squad on a regular basis.

I am very disappointed to see Bonham being released, I really feel for him. One bad 3/4 of a game which wasn't really his fault and that might be the end of his career. Surely better his as 3rd choice next season rather than another academy graduate, or is there someone else in mind? He was consistently 3rd choice (i.e. on the bench when Bond was starting) and still very young, so I would have had him around for 1 more year at least.

What do people think of those released? Do we expect more to go? Anyone know anything about the academy players signed up as pros?

Yes sorry for Bonham... but Almunia is not saying he is leaving.. .and we have been linked with another goalie too... so Bonham may be better kick starting his career elsewhere...... good luck to him <ok>

I am not sorry in the least to see Yeates leave, never rated him for the championship, it will be interesting to see where he goes from here. As for Mingoia and Buaben, im not surprised to see them go, they never managed to get themselves in the squad, so its not beneficial for them to remain. As for the others, I think they are at a difficult age where they are too old to be in the academy but not old enough to be challenging for a place, Bonham especially.

Can't disagree with any of this Dan. Like you I never rated Yeates and was often frustrated at his inconsistent delivery. I liked Prince, but again no surprise he's off, possibly back to Scotland.

I hope we retain all the players it mentions that are out of contract but not on the list. Starting to look forward to the new season already:1980_boogie_down:

Rumour on the OFH bush telegraph is that Bonham knew before the Leeds game that he wasn't going to be offered a new contract. Maybe it will be good for him to move on and get more playing time. Wish him well as I think he has got something to offer. It just might happen that he goes to Brentford.

They said that in the Sky commentary of the first leg of the semi final OFH. It's a shame for the lad but as you say hopefully he'll get a start somewhere else. You wouldn't wish for anyone to have that as their only professional appearance.

Perhaps Leeds United or Hull City will take Jack Bonham?

One thing I read that Almunia has said on Sky Sports text is that he is in negotiations with the club, and we are his first option, but as he's a free agent, if he gets a better offer he'll seriously consider it.

Other than him being a closet/secret Luton Town fan, nothing.

Has he actually said he is a Luton fan? Or are you just guessing?

Tommo and Britt might go out on loan whilst Nosworthy will be a key squad member once fit.

Jenkins will go but then Rodgers liked him because he was a passer which Zola could also like.

I guess Yeates is being let go because we don't play with wingers and they feel Abdi and Battocchio will stay on and forget we have Smith and Murray who Zola probably rates considering he played the former a few times before injury and Murray should be a top player if he behaves himself.

Zola wanted a smaller squad as well so some were always likely to go - Trouble is how many goalkeepers do you want on Professional terms considering you could just get one in on loan if there is a serious issue.

Yeates always played central midfield this season just gone and he performed well. Murray is not a central midfielder

No true on both accounts but we could have 3/4 other central midfielders to pick from and yes Murray is a wide-man and probably would be in the squad if he didn't create problems off the pitch..

no surprises in the list so far, Yeates being the biggest name to be culled, but although he did a lot better this season, i'm not surprised to see him go. I also feel for Bonham, but at the end of the day, tricky as that situation was, he didn't handle it well. I do hope he gets picked up by maybe a league 1 team as a number 2, and gets proper help and support..after all, though he was going even before the Leeds game, there must have been something there for him to have been kept on so long. Just a shame we didn't see it when it mattered.
