    Large fire broke out about 9.30am this morning
    looking out my office window smoke is still billowing up
    11 fire appliances in attendance

    The police have now found a body and I believe it has been confirmed as 81 year old Brian Sandals, owner of the shop. Brian was a huge figure in the pop culture of Newcastle and was the person largely responsible for getting Viz magazine off the ground when the Kard Bar agreed to start selling the comic when it originally came out. It was also his idea to start giving away posters and other naff memorabilia free with the comic - using his own huge stock of 1970's gear that he had never been able to shift - such as Bay City Rollers posters.

    RIP Brian.

    Kard Bar probably played a role in the lives of many people of Newcastle in their youth and beyond. Terrible shame.
