I have been looking at the League table and I am somewhat frustrated that slowly but surely we have began looking more and more over our shoulders. At Christmas I was delighted with where we were and I knew it would be unlikely we would maintain anything like the form we had shown for the first half of the season. I just feel that with more luck and more purpose we could have been a top 10 team again this season. We are only 9 points off 8th place currently and 6 from 9th place. I cant help but feel this could have all been so much more comfortable than it is now. If we had more luck at Sunderland, Arsenal and scored the last minute penalty vs Southampton we would have an adidtional 5 points (thats putting us down as a draw vs Arsenal). This would put us on 40 points level with Fulham who currently occupy 10th. 8 West Brom 32 -1 44 9 Swansea 32 1 41 10 Fulham 33 -7 40 11 West Ham 33 -9 39 12 Southampton 33 -7 38 13 Newcastle 33 -17 36 14 Norwich 33 -21 35 There are many reasons why I want us to stay up, Increased media coverage is a big deal for me and I know that has its pro's and cons. Other reason's are for the continued development of the club in all areas. We have seen a huge turn around in fortunes since the season in L1 and I think that is set to continute if/when we stay up. I would be devastated if we were relegated and we didnt see other good players come in. A nice 10th place finished would have also been more appealing than a team that finishs say 16th/17th too. Fingers crossed for a win this weekend which I think will ensure we stay up. A strong finish to the season now will still see us finish in a respectable position and give us plenty to build on for next season. Sorry for the ramblings....... So much on my mind thats NCFC related at the moment!!!
Don't really care about a 'respectable' position as you call it, fourth bottom this year and I'll be happy as a pig in 5hit !!
Kick it off, I will also be happy with just staying up, I think my point was it has been made harder than what it may have needed to be. I will be delighted to stay in this league again for next season.
We haven't had a great deal of luck this season, that's true. But a) when we did have luck, we didn't make the most of it (Southampton at home) and b) as someone else pointed out on a different thread, the dodgy penalties are not going to go in your favour if you spend the whole game defending.
