Right so at the moment by my reckoning we are still a bit light on the ground when it comes to numbers. According to Mr Scally it looks like Charlie Lee is going to be staying so at least that gives us extra cover in midfield (he certainly looks like the player we are missing at the moment). Now we still only have 18 squad players. We probably need at least another three players for that, certainly a goalkeeper which looks to be George Howard and a winger which is most proabably Harry Grant but these players still have not signed on the dotted line as yet. Ideally I would like a player who can offer full back cover and another more attacking minded midfielder. I happy enough with the centre backs with have at the moment in Legge, Barrett and Davies. I have a feeling that McKain will be seen about more in and around the team. Maybe Mad Dog wants to integrate more development players and play the likes of Hessenthaler, Hare, Haysman, Butcher and Carter but do we want to be too heavily relying on Youth (im sure theres an argument from brb there). Are people happy with our squad size though or do you agree we are light in terms of numbers?
Definately a goalkeeper, and I really feel we need an experienced centre mid! Charlie lee would fit the bill if he is considered. But I feel we will miss the likes of frampton or wright with that bit of solidity and experience in the middle. For me marlon pack would be a good signing even though he is on trial with Bristol city.
Do have to remember that the transfer window doesn't close on Saturday at 2:59 pm! Maybe Allen wants to see the first few games of the season to see if against other teams in the league we can compete and then maybe add faces after that. The loan market seems to be our only way of adding new players unless people leave but if played skilfully, and I really do mean skilfully, 18 players may be enough this year.
18 players for a season? That won't happen! Even with James Russell's strict fitness program Myles Weston has still managed to get injured. I suppose there is still time up until the 1st of Sept buy its always nice to have the players before the first game.
I wonder if we are waiting to sign a couple, whose wage demands are a bit steep for us, but come the next couple of weeks players who have not got a club will realise that they had better take what is on offer. I think there's possibly a bit of cat and mouse going on at the moment.
Also a lot of players that have been on trial at different clubs and not offered a contract will be looking desperately for a contract so could maybe do something with that
I'm still quite puzzled as to why Harry Grant and George Howard haven't been given deals yet when its obvious that MA wants them. Also where has the £750,000 from Jack Payne gone? We got Cody and Bayo on free's and German was only a nominal fee surely we can't have blown it all?
hope the fee was as high as that but most of the money is for Codys wages. Should still be enough for a couple more players. Hopefully Bertrand will go to Liverpool so should get a sizeable sell on fee.
Thats not going to happen, Bertrand has already said he wants to stay at Chels. MA also said that Cody isn't even on half the wages that he was on at Cov which was rumoured to be 6k a week so surely even if he's on 2.5k a week, there must still be some left? Only think I can think of is Scally gave Cody a sizeable signing on fee as a counter balance for the pay cut.
Wasn't big Mac on a similar wage and on a 3 year contract to boot! Must have had a brilliant agent. Cody in coparison deserves every penny. Never thought we would get him. Much credit to PS.
