There ain't many, some might say none at all. But having read Graham Greene's short story "The Third Man" I found the film was actually better than the book. Beautifully shot in Vienna this classic film noir features two fantastic performances from Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles. The film is fantastically directed by Carol Reed. Only my opinion though. The scene where half way into the film Harry Lime makes his appearance in a suddenly lit up doorway is one of cinemas most iconic images. Anyone think of any more?
Good choice. The interaction between Dreyfuss, Shaw and Sceider is brilliant. The music score is still magic after all these years. The only mistake I felt they made was having the shark come out of the water and onto the boat.
the interaction feels almost unique... have you tried the name three actors who would play their respective roles now game ?
No but I dont think you could three to match that line-up? Even The Mayor is brilliant, Murray something or something Murray I think.
Book was reasonably good, but the film was very good, plus Tom Waits played the barman, and Mickey Rourke and Matt Dillon were exceptional; Rumble Fish.
true you couldn't really match it , but in the present day - and there will be an inevitable remake - I`d have Philip Seymour Hoffman in the Dreyfuss role and, strangely, Bill Murray as the Mayor of Amityville. Mickey Rourke as Quint and never been able to think of anyone for the Roy Schnieder role.
