Normally this is Trev's domain which his detailed knowledge on corruption and cheating.

    https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...heads-investigating-hundreds-corruption-cases

Why would they ditch all that experience brought in tackling the issue? It almost feels like someone has said "right lads the heat is off, lets get back to normal"

Even if that is not the case they must have known how this would play out.

FIFA are trying to cover up the corruption which goes back decades. For example, it's known in football circles that FIFA did not want England to get to the final of the World Cup in 1986 because of the potential loss of face with no South American representative and an ingrained hatred of the FA stemming from Joao Havelange. It's also known that FIFA 'influenced' certain matches at World Cups with their choice of official and covered up a major max fixing scandal in the 1980's.

This is "known" is it ?

I don't like FIFA any more than anyone else but this sounds like the product of chat rooms and conversations down the pub. Having said that, I expect that the reason the two were fired is that they were too good at their jobs.

I agree. Although as I say even if it isn't the case, then that is the conclusion most people will draw.

It just wreaks of "hang on they need to go or at some stage they will expose all of us". These governing bodies are all rotten. I suppose nobody should be surprised by this. In any walk of life power and/or money are the biggest corruptors of man.

The anti-English FA sentiment is well known.

Oh I'll give you that. It's just that you need a few more facts before it adds up to widespread anti-English match fixing in the 1980's.

Just a rumour doing the rounds. I wouldn't be surprised though.
I still find it absurd that Russia and Qatar have the World Cups. Russia especially. There is going to be a few murders over there with some of their right wing nuts.

Are wing nuts that dangerous over there then? Why only the right ones?

You can see it in Russia. The podium for the winners will just be sea of bodies belonging to homosexuals and minorities. I seriously debated why I bother with football when Qatar and Russia got in. Condemn pockets of racism (rightly) in Italy but go give a world cup to those with the most shambolic human rights' records that could have realistically held it.

    Makes my skin crawl

Exactly this - Russia is a cesspit of homophobia, racism and violence. Awarding them the World Cup is just asking for it.
Qatar - Although one of the most liberal of Islamic countries, it still frowns upon minorities and homophobia is rife. It won't be pleasant for anyone.

It still beggars belief that these two countries were awarded the World Cup. Australia, United States, Canada, UK, Germany are more suitable hosts. I would have loved to have seen a World Cup hosted in Oz.

If ever football could be good for promoting change it was those two occasions. Should have been some rules about equality and rights that all bidding nations had to adhere to before they were even considered.
I know it's pie in the sky but there should be a larger moral obligation felt
