Well are'nt we fickle. I remember not so long ago when I was having a go at the attitude of many supporters towards Best and by extension anyone who does not perform straight away. People saying yes but he will never be any good blah blah blah.
Look around you guys.: Collocini now outstanding but sleighted for a long time after arriving at the club, Shola just not good enough for Newcastle apparently despite his heroic playing through the pain period and many good goals for the lads. Danny Simpson now acknowdged as a potential England call up but again another player who will never make it. Barton a long history of not being good enough to wear the back and white now a saint it would seem and playing brilliantly another potential England call up. Jonas even now some people can not see how good a player this man is and how much he brings to the team. Nolan again he still gets stick from some. How many times have I seen a proposed team selection that leaves him out, yet the man has been great for us in so many ways. Lovenkrands was excellent last year but has not been given much playing time this season- is finished as a footballer I hear people say. Well maybe but really he needs a bit of patience then he may well perform again. Whose to say he won't ?

I could go on no doubt but I think you get the message. We just do not give people a chance to often for my liking but indulge in kneejerk reactions that do not help people develop into their potential. Support the lads please give them a chance before you make your minds up- nothing to lose everything to gain !

Sorry if this is a bit negative I started to write it in response to the thread about wor Shola and should he be straight back in to the team and just thought my god (or other random senseless made up creator thingy) they're still at it.
What do you think has it got better since our sojourn in the depths of the second division (can't bring myself to use the stupid sponsors names for our footie).

hello from Aus by the by it's very hot indeed hah!

    Fickle?

Opinions do change and quite rightly.

Colo when he first arrived wasn't exactly up to scratch but he's now one of the first names on a team sheet.

Simpson had question marks whether he'd handle the top tier but he's proven to be consistent.

Best is a decent back up striker but we need better in the summer to be the first choice striker.

    Jonas; I've always been a fan :)

So. Not fickle but we can all change opinion over a longish period of time (unless you are RIP BT as his opinion can change every 20 minutes.)

I sort of agree, I always try to give everyone a chance and focus on the good rather than bad parts of a players game, and was always annoyed at the ironic cheers Colo used to get for doing the great little composed touches he's now worshipped for. However there is a difference between changing opinions versus the fickle criticism of the likes of Jonas recently. Frankly anyone who doesn't recognise he's one of our top players (and I'm not just talking about the last 2 games) clearly isn't watching the same player I am.

I've always thought Danny Guthrie was woeful though, everyone else needs to get off my bandwagon!

I basically said this, but the bloody page froze up and wiped it all out and I can't be arsed to retype it.

Players are judged on performance (except for Barton who is judge by his past), if they improve such as Jose and Collo we acknowledge that.

    Fickle Never, Frustrated Yes

Guthrie looks far too surprised for my liking when he's on the pitch.

    He's hiding something!

He's only pulling that face so the opposition are to busy looking at his face and can disguise his passes :D

I've also always been a supporter of Jonas, yeah probably doesn't get as many goals as we'd hope and doesn't always deliver the perfect cross but the guy is quality and I reckon he'd get in most Premier league squads.
Don't think we've seen enough of Guthrie to say one way or the other, mainly due to injuries but also because we are very strong in the central midfield role.
Nolan is a good player but IF we had everyone fit not sure he'd make the starting 11, again central midfield we are very strong.
Best will never be anything more than a back up striker for us, not the greatest in the air or got searing pace or great ball control. yes we need probably 2 more strikers in the summer but would be comfortable to have Best/Shola/Lover as back ups.

Good article. This fickleness is a general problem, however. Fans, owners and pundits are far too short-termist these days, probably to do with all the money in the game. Players go from brilliant to rubbish and back again within the blink of an eyelid. Managers come and go at dizzying speed (especially at Newcastle). Oh for the days of more considered judgements, when the first solution to everything wasn't "get rid."

I have always defend Best, even since the normal 606.
He has been a cracking player for us and an absolute steal at 1 million.Another one of Chris' brilliant bargain buys.

I don't agree that we are fickle, most fans don't keep changing their minds regarding players. But i do think some of us judge new players too quickly. Colo and Enrique were both written off as useless by many after just a few performances but have come good. Pancrate got some really excited after a debut wonder goal and turned out to be pants.

I think we just need to give players a bit more time before making our first judgement. But I also think it is fair enough to change your opinion based upon performances, we are the customers after all and we have a right to moan if we think the players are not pulling their weight.

People are enititled to change their mind and be proven wrong, that is not fickle.

Fickle would be hailing Best as fantastic for his hattrick then ****e in the games where he hasn't scored, then great again when he scores.

I gave Colo a good chance and he came good. I've been a fan of Jonas since he joined. Best is a good Championship player and I'm happy having him as backup, over the coming weeks he may yet prove himself to be Premiership quality. Guthrie I am rather undecided on but I consider him a decent squad player (but a little light). I don't think Simpson is England material but he is decent. My opinion of Shola has been rather consistent over the years, average prem striker, weakened by injury, gives us something different, relaxed style of play.

I may be forced to change my opinion but that certainly wouldn't make me fickle.
