A Massive Club..2 Marvellous Marvin Sordell..3 I think Billy would like to say a few words..... AllHell
Ha-my own thread at last! Doesn't really bother me who thinks I'm an idiot, AHLL, if we win I'm happy.
To be fair you have always said that we should judge 'better than Messi' when he is played in his proper position of the left wing....... he is played on the left wing and who set up TWO of Marvellous's goals?....... yes...... better than Messi!
... I’m absolutely over the moon with today’s result and delighted to be proved wrong at long last. Summed up perfectly by Ken on a different thread…!! Lest not forget that it’s taken him 28 games before eventually turning in a performance worthy of a £3,000,000+ price tag and in the process finally making a positive contribution to our scrap for Championship survival. From what I’ve seen of him in half a dozen games this season I never in my wildest dreams thought he was capable of doing what he did today. So tonight I am a very very happy man and welcome the stick that’s coming my way. If he carries on like that until the end of the season I will marry him…!! However, having said all that… one game doesn’t make a player and I still think he’s w@nk...!!
I would like to say I am delighted to be eating a large slice of humble pie. I thought we would get hammered and after going 2-0 down I was fearing the worse but marvellous Marvin and agent Llera were excellent. Well done to Jose Riga and all the squad.
No-one has ever doubted there was a good footballer in there somewhere, but buried so deeply I never thought we would see it. The solution may be that Sodall has belatedly realized that to have any hope of re-establishing himself in the Bolton squad, or getting a decent contract elsewhere, he needs to put in a few good performances. I think the same thing happened with Stephens. Not that Stephens was ever dross like Sodall, but it was obvious he only showed his talent spasmodically and his sloppiness in defence cost us a good few points. But once the January window neared he strung together a series of good performances and clinched his move to a bigger and "better" club. Suits us fine if Sodall can replicate that for three more matches and gets himself a good contract somewhere. I just hope it doesn't fool our owners into signing him permanently, because what he has done this season is inexcusable. Three goals today by no means compensates for our virtually playing with ten men for a couple dozen matches this season. No wonder Pigott and Smith felt discouraged when scum like that get into the squad ahead of them, That is no way to build the Charlton spirit of Curbishley, Lawrence and Seed, and with our limited resources we need that spirit to compete with more affluent clubs.
Well done Morgan Fox. He reminds me a bit of Pat Rice, the Arsenal full-back who did not have a great natural talent but worked so hard at his game that he became in indispensable part of the double-winning team. When he shouted at Danny Haynes for taking a penalty for the U- 21's it showed he's quite a strong character. I think he'll keep improving, and there's a lot more to come.
They liked him at Notts County. Let's hope RD doesn't sell him for 50,000 pounds and laugh all the way to the bank.
Personally I won't be cracking open the bubbly where Sordell is concerned. The memory of how he has stolen a living off us all season will linger a bit longer than that. About ten seasons, to be honest. Yesterday's game was a tale of two defences. Our defence was slow and poor, with Morrison in particular having an off day. Their defence was even worse. I swear to God I could have out ran their two centre halves. Marvin will leave at the end of the season with my boos loudly ringing in his cauliflower ears, although knowing him he will have his Dr Dre headphones on, and won't hear them.
Is it pertinent that he had his best game the game AFTER we played his parent club? Could somebody there have had a word with him about his/their expectations for next season?
If we stay up, do we put in a bid to keep him? And more seriously, very happy for Fox. Coming in at a rough time and doing the business is to be applauded. Does his contract run beyond june?
Can't fault his performance, Vol, nor take away from the 3 goals and how he took them. Seeing the first again, showed great pace and actually upper body strength followed by composure. If he continues to do it in the business end of the season and contributes to keeping us up then he parts way with my thanks.
If Roley can't get us better players than him, then we're in for another tough ride next season... It's was an effective performance, but how many of those have we had as opposed to the bad ones..?
