https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67978537 Everton again and Nottingham forest as well this time. Not surprised with Forest mind their owner is a right crook
Had a beer with a forest supporter on Saturday. He said he thinks they are knackered. He is no expert mind, same as me, but he reckons they have spent fortunes on dross. Also didnt have much time for Cooper interestingly and his style of football. Says it has been a breath of fresh air with Nuno.
Its interesting. When we were languishing in League one without a pot to piss in it really brought home the need for sustainability and a well run club. Most people saying mid table championship for a few years to build a sustainable platform would be fine. Wind the clock forward a couple of years and all the knackers are now coming out of the woodwork moaning Sack the owners throw money at it etc etc Be careful what you wish for I'll take our current owners any day of the week
And, surprise surprise they'll say it's all the fault of the PL ... ... football is somehow doing the impossible and strangling itself. I bet the KLD OUT brigade would love either of these criminals flinging money at the club.
It’s a fine balance mate. I still want to support my club for the next few years, I’d hate to see them as a Reading etc. But to be behind the likes of Bournemouth, Brentford and quite a few clubs in the premier league is a bit galling. Hopefully we will get there before too soon. What pisses me off is when mags complain about “what they’ve been through”. What’s that then? Two relegations in which they bounced back up, they then have the nerve to slag our support or the empty seats. The thick ****ers must seriously believe that if they had been through what we have that they would still have queues around the corner for season tickets

Hope you don't mind me putting this on your thread, it kind of ties in and, at least, shows how lucky we are. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67983325 Reading owner Dai Yongge must either "fund the club adequately" or "make immediate arrangements to sell", the English Football League has said. The Chinese businessman has been fined a further £50,000 for failing to meet financial deadlines over wages. Royals fans forced the abandonment of Saturday's League One match with Port Vale in protest at Dai's ownership. The EFL said it will discuss the pitch invasion at a board meeting later this week. "It has in recent months become increasingly clear that Mr Dai Yongge is no longer in a position - or does not have the motivation - to support the club financially as he did following the change of control in 2017," the EFL said. "The league will now consider all available options it has under the regulations and will have no hesitation in bringing further charges. "In the meantime, and for the sake of the future of Reading FC, its staff, supporters, and local community we urge Mr Dai either to fund the club adequately or to make immediate arrangements to sell his majority shareholding to appropriate new owners so everyone can move forward with renewed optimism."
there are many (as we have seen in this forum) that still simply want owners prepared to throw millions, if not billions, of their own money into a club just for the quick shot of glory. i guess they do not think any longer term than that 'quick shot' but there HAS to be long term problems, i may be well wrong but football at some point will lose a lot of the current appeal and the big money will move onto other things...it is also why i am happy to stick with this sustainability course we are on now, we may even end up as one of the top clubs because of it.
Terrible situation for Reading fans and the staff employed by the club. This is happening too often in the last few years with owners who are not fit to own a pub team. IMO, the FA is failing professional football by not doing enough due diligence on potential owners before giving the go ahead. Sadly, Reading will not be the last, as I can see the likes of Charlton going the same way with that Cretin Methven as owner
The only real question is 'WHY do you want to own a football club?' Methven clearly isn't a passionate football man, unlike KLD for example. The answer has to be money and what they can get out of the club ... ... certainly not what they can put in. JFK put it quite well
I’ve not really seen anyone asking for KLD to pull in megabucks but I don’t really check RTG so I could be wrong but I think there’s a big difference between throwing money at it and simply spending what the club can. I have no idea how much we’re spending all I can go off is the numerous articles that have stated our wage bill is pitiful for the championship so it’s just guesswork on my part but; If our revenue is 150% that of club A but they’re putting more back into the club than we are then that’s a problem within itself. It’s obviously a lot more complicated but in simple terms you can spend £20m a season without breaching FFP and have ambitions of playing in the PL then you should be operating close to that to maximise your chances surely?
Your post sums it up perfectly, it's all total guesswork. No one would make a post asking for megabucks ... .... they always make it sound like they want just a little bit more. I don't believe they'd be happy with that tbh. Not all Championship clubs have reported their financial results, but of those that have published the numbers, the average operational losses last season were £476,000 a week. The cost of getting to the 'Promised Land' of the PL is increasing every year please log in to view this image
Its a **** show in the lower leagues mate. But it doesn't get the publicity it deserves and People have a blind spot to the fact that it could be any club next and it nearly was our club. I think they call it a Scotoma. No problem with people having a moan or wanting us to progress faster But people need a little perspective. Maybe it will take a big club going tits up like Rangers did to wake people up.
aye and this is where i miss G.O.M. as he could search for info and put it into a more understandable way, as anything would be a complete bit of guess work from me i rarely tackle it...but i would agree that a club should push themselves to spending the max amount 'allowed' but then, to spend that amount it has to be generated by the club and until we see those estimated big sales the club might not have that much. i obviously get annoyed by certain aspects but then i try to remind myself how the club was being run less than three years ago and just how close we were to administration, then i feel better.
