FFP doesnt come in for another year so the club has no obligations to cut spending this season, its the club choosing to cut the budget to make the transition into FFP alot easier. But should to club spend in hope of promotion as FFP doesnt come in to the Premier League for another couple of years yet and even when it does it wont restrict the club as the income will be alot greater then it would be in the championship So there would be risk of spending now as if promotion doesnt happen the consequences could be heavy but if it pays of the rewards will be well worth it. Right now its really is a buyers market in the championship with clubs looking to get in line with FFP. With Jermaine Beckford leaving it strengthens City's position to not only spend but to keep hold of people like Kasper Schmeichel, Wes Morgan and Anthony Knockaert. Should the club spend now and fail to gain promotion next season will have to see a fire sale at the club or risk heavy financial penalties amongst others. Players like Anthony Knockaert, Andy King, Chris Wood, Jeff Schlupp, Matty James, Ben Marshall and Ritchie De Laet would have to be sold David Nugent, Kasper Schmeichel, Wes Morgan, Paul Konchesky, Zak Whitbread, Neil Danns, Lloyd Dyer, Sean St. Ledger, Martyn Waghorn and Richie Wellens' contracts all expire in 12 months meaning all would walk for nothing should promotion not happen So it would be a big risk to spend and pretty much would be all or nothing. Getting Wes Morgan and Kasper Schmeichel on new deals might sway the owners to spend knowing they will go for sizeable sums in 12 months rather then nothing
Stick with what we have, clubs that are spending this year will have those players on the books far past the FFP rules coming in. Lets face it, Bolton are now screwed! You could say that clubs like QPR and Wigan need to go up this year, as they wont be able to survive after this year, unless they can clear out players before the parachute payments dry up.
Bolton have parachute payments covering them for 4 years, so still another 2 years after this season. I dont mean us to spend big like under Sven when we spent 10-15M Giving Nigel a budget of 5M would be more then enough. Should Nigel spend 5M on sign players like he did with Matty James, Ritchie De Laet, Anthony Knockaert and Chris Wood and if then we didnt get promoted we would be able to sell them on and recover that 5M and much more helping us get in line with FFP. Its all about risk which im sure the club have considered but im just trying to play devil's advocate
The FFP has already come in - started 2011/12 season - It's the sanctions that do not take effect till 2014/15. Last seasonclubs were/are allowed to make losses of £4M and shareholder investment of £8M - This year its £4M and £6M, but from next season when the sanctions kick in its only £3M and £5M. Clubs that make more than £8M in losses deserve what they get in my opinion http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/FLExplainedDetail/0,,10794~2748246,00.html
The sanctions dont come in until 2014/15, even then clubs can still spend what they want but they will face penalties if they make hugh losses
Whether we decide to gamble or not, it has been proven by us and QPR and a host of others that throwing money at it and signing players en masse does not bring success.
Spending money guarantees nothing But whenever Nigel has spent money other then Jamie Vardy they have proved to be an asset to the club In Nigel's first spell here he spent money on Jack Hobbs, Aleksandar Tunchev, Richie Wellens and Paul Gallagher. All players proved to be very good players for the club In his 2nd spell he has signed Ben Marshall, Wes Morgan, Danny Drinkwater, Ritchie De Laet, Matty James, Anthony Knockaert Nigel proving there he is very shrewd in the transfer market. I think if the owners give him a decent budget he will recruit the 4 or 5 players needed to turn our top 2 standard team into a top 2 standard squad. Our starting line up can more then match anyone in this league. Its just we struggle for depth in positions and if Nigel is allowed to rectify this I think we will get promoted
Its a risk but one that could pay off. Its something for the owners to consider, im sure they have already and chosen not to but its still possible
