Mine's a lager: Fernandes mingles with fans and raises a glass to Hughes By Mick Collins Last updated at 11:47 PM on 3rd March 2012 Comments (0) Share QPR chairman Tony Fernandes mingled with fans in the unlikely setting of a pub around the corner from Loftus Road yesterday and explained his decision to axe manager Neil Warnock. Having said at the start of January that the decision to ditch Warnock was 'very, very hard', he set about fulfilling his promise to be 'as transparent as I can'. Warnock claimed that Twitter had 'poisoned' the Air Asia chief with an estimated personal wealth of £400million against him. One of the boys: QPR owner Tony Fernandes enjoys a pint with fans It was through that very medium that the chairman told his 170,000 followers that he would be in the Queen Adelaide pub before yesterday's home game with Everton. When asked about the decision to replace Warnock, Fernandes, who had entered the pub to a huge round of applause from QPR fans inside, said: 'I think we have to look to the long run. Mark (Hughes) is a really good guy, and Neil was a fantastic guy, but really, for where we want to go - building the academy, building a scouting structure - Mark has that experience. He can help us get there.' Questioned further by fans, who crowded to shake hands and have photos taken, Fernandes, outlined his vision, pint in hand. 'We all want to move forwards, be bigger and better, but it's going to have to be a stage at a time. We're doing all we can to make this club better and more stable. 'And what better way to prepare for a game than with a beer and a chat! Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...s-fans-raises-glass-Hughes.html#ixzz1o6aG6rC1
Cooool! Like it. There's been some interesting Chairmen about over the years - but this one's sorted. 'Ammers loss our gain, big time. They say we're a bit of a community club. Stuff like that confirms it. Tone's the daddy!
I was wondering why photographers were taking photos right in front of me so i looked left and nothing and looked right and Tony Fernades was a foot to the right of me walking to the lower loft where he watched the game. He got everyone around him food and drinks and it was funny seeing him jump up at the foul on Taarabt that led to the goal.
MoTD made big of his presence in the crowd, and his obvious fan credentials when Tarbs was fouled, and then when Zamora scored.
Nice bloke for sure and a wonderful bit of PR with the film on TV tonight Good skills Don't get me wrong he is outstanding for QPR but look at the bigger picture it benefits all ... I am not complaining I am just aware my brothers
