One of the best groundsmen in the business has gone, to the national football centre at Burton, this man has won many awards over the years, and will take some replacing, he even turned down the Wembley job, some years ago.
Yeah I heard he might be moving on on Friday or Saturday. Let's hope it's not something rotten in the running of the club that's led to him leaving and that he just felt it was time for a change.
Its all part of the master plan! We wont be playing much football on the ground so why bother with a decent pitch!
Probably the greatest groundsman ever! He has prepared that pitch so bootifully over the years..Obvisously Keane was not aware of that
This has to be the worst piece of news I've heard for a long time. Long have we had one of the best pitches in England regardless of weather and the majority was down to Ferguson. I hope the people who have worked with him have learnt from him so we may continue to have quality grass at PR. A sad day today.
Gutted! Ferguson always kept the pitch in beautiful condition, and even fought off snow against Leicester last season! Probably the best groundsman ever.
It is a shame - but Portman Road has been commended for its pitch all the time I've been alive and long before Ferguson joined us.
good luck ferguson, one piece of advice though..... the grass isn't greener on the other side. how about that guys?
The pitch quality was one of the few things we have had success in over the last few years. God that's depressing.
Is Sheepshanks still involved on one of the Club Boards, albeit in a non exec capacity? The reason that I ask is that he is apparently the driver behind Ferguson's appointment - that rather smacks of having a conflict of interests!!
I think it goes a bit further than that Gus. As I understand it Sheepy pretty much appointed him to the job at Burton.
he can be replaced, as one person said ( i don't know who ) ... one blade of grass does not a meadow make.
I think we should go for a young and hungry new groundsman someone with new ideas, maybe we could try a nice chamomile pitch so after a sliding Bowyer tackle everyone is calmed down by the aroma released from the bruised foliage.
it wouldn't require so much attention either, would benefit from the occasional trim but that would be about it. good idea plum i will put it forward at the next egm.
