Now its never a good idea to try and second guess Fergie but after commenting on another thread I think I have found the idea behind Fergies thinking.

An out and out attacking midfielder is what we all expected this summer but it seems this wont be the case.

    So whats going on?

    Take alook at this formation.

    --------------De Gea----------------
    Rafael---Smalling-----Vidic-------Evra
    ---------Carrick---Anderson----------
    Nani---------Rooney-----------Young
    ------------Hernandez---------------

Could this be what he has in mind. The attacking players inter changing and of course the many players we have for each position?

    Looks good to me.

Im thinking with his back hes likely to play about as many times as both Smalling and Jones so stuck Smalling in there.

Anyway I said look at the formation not the team. We have a number of players for each role.

Another option here. Though I would have Giggs and Fletcher .

    Also

    Valencia-----Young------Nani
    ------------Rooney----------

    or

    Valencia----Nani------Young
    ----------Berbatov---------

    or

    Nani-----Rooney-----Park
    -------Berbatov---------

You get the idea. loads of options. Welbeck hasnt been used once either.

pleaaaase don't say anything bad about united on our board! Wah wah wah waaaaaah.

As for the OP. It's a possibility, but I've got a funny feeling Fergie hasn't finished with his chequebook quite yet.

Strongest but no where near the best at all.

That line up would get mauled against Barcelona. Its a hyped up Wigan. A team of grafters with Rooney being the only creative spark and hes at best the 3rd most creative player in our squad to start with.

Honestly mate enough of the Nani rubbish. You are a decent poster but you obsess with Nani far too often. You think if Nani was in that side we wouldn't suddenly be mauled by Barcelona? It doesn't matter who you put in that team it would still be beaten by Barcelona. There is a reason why, when Valencia come back from injury, he displaced Nani from the team.

I didnt mention Nani. You had a team with no creativity, nobody to get attacks started from the back and no flair.

Valencia got back in the team as he was fresh, Nani was out of form after his injury and fergie did the smart thing. Use the fresh player. Its common sense.

Fergie isnt a man who plays players based on name, he decides what is best for the game ahead and if Nani is tired and Valencia is fresh guess what happens.

Nani has consistently outperformed Valencia aswell.

I only defend nani as there are huge amounts of bullshit directed at him by United fans who have no idea what they are talking about. Not just on here but all over. Hes one of the best wingers in the world.

It was clear you meant Nani though. Everyone of your forward line ups had Nani in it! I agree with the he is one of the best wingers in the world but I disagree with why Valencia replaced him. Nani was playing brilliantly and when he was dropped everybody was shocked plus Valencia had just come back from a career threatening injury yet he was thrust back in because Ferguson trusts him. If I had to hazard a guess on who will start the Community Shield in August out of the two I would say Valencia will.

After his CL performance I suspect not.

And Nani played against Chelsea before the Liverpool game. He played very well aswell. The Liverpool game came and he was attacked by Carragher and from then on his form dipped. So no, Nani wasnt dropped for Valencia.

I have also said many times that Nani and Valencia in the same team make us stronger than having one or the other alongside Park.

I actually meant Carrick. He can set us up from deep and plays well with Ando. I dont think Carrick and Fletch go aswell together, especially when you have 2 grafters on the wings as we lose our wide threat to an extent.

    --------------De Gea----------------
    Rafael---Ferdinand---Vidic------Evra
    --------Fletcher---Anderson----------
    Nani------Rooney----------Young
    ------------Hernandez---------------

That works as the solid back 6 allows for Nani and rooney to play their games.

    --------------De Gea----------------
    Rafael---Ferdinand---Vidic------Evra
    --------Carrick---Anderson----------
    Valencia------Rooney----------Young
    ------------Hernandez---------------

Works as carrick can play the holding role and anderson can get forward more as Valencia and Young will drop back.

Different players work in different line ups.
