Right I have been thinking about this and while its something fergie obviously does I can recall a number of occasions when players who have been considered part of Fergies favourites get moved on if they stop repaying his loyalty by not cutting the mustard on or off the field.

So even though Fergie likes to use players like Giggs, Fletcher, Carrick etc he wont do so if they dont put the performances in on the pitch. Its that simple. After today he will give them the chance to put it right and if they do I can see him continuing to use these players in the big games but if they dont he will look for other option. Be it youth or a new player.

SAF usually only moves established players on when they ask for moves, like Neville and Butt did, when they start disrupting the team like Stam or RVN, or when they are not putting the effort in like Yorke and Cole. Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs and Evans are still putting the effort in and happy with their squad roles, so I doubt SAF will move them on until he is absolutely certain they have nothing more to give.

His loyalty to players is a double edged sword. On the one hand it makes sure they always put the effort in for him and often helps us outperform teams with better squads on paper. But on the other hand it does mean we are not as prosaic when it comes to cutting out deadwood as other teams are.
