According to this article from the Beeb website there is some truth to it.

Statistically its seems to prove that they get at least an extra minute when they aren't winning.

Fergie time is seldom needed so stats may not tell the whole picture, the ref has we've seen has done most of the damage before extra time. In games like with City in the 4 3 the ref allowed more time than he could justify with all the addins, subs ect it still did not add up. As soon as United scored, game over.

What would we expect from Luke on this thread but an honest assessment. Never any bias in favour of United of course not Luke we all know that.

The ball a metre over the goal line, Gomes having the ball kicked away from him into the goal, the odd gratuitous penalty. Only when it matters of course.

Yep, no bias there at all.

There was an investigation into this before and the differences were obvious then, too.
There was a difference of 74 seconds when Man Utd were winning, compared to when they were losing.

"No wonder United want as much 'Fergie time' as possible, particularly as they have a good record of late winners.
Last season, United matches were 74 seconds longer on average when they were losing compared with when they were winning." - My mate, Graham Poll.

What about when top teams are winning but they are holding on for the win, why less time then? It aint balanced, the whole problem is United seem to get these things when it really is needed and stats never show that sort of thing.

The gomez penalty was never one and it was a clear view by the ref, ball clearly sent flying by the keeper, any fool could see it was good keeping yet United were 2 down and out of the game totally at that stage, the utter anger of your team led to the thrashing.. the united comeback.. all started by Webb.

Over the years United didn't need this help as much but this team is only where they are because of Halsey CLuttergrub and Webb and a host of given dives for penalties. Who gave the pen for the arsenal handball that was never a pen?

Now that it is much needed, this help, it is becoming clearer because it is more frequent. United have needed these decisions.

Myth? No, Mythter Fergie or Thir Fergie

Of course it exists but it's not stats that will prove it, they can be explained away if you want to dismiss it. I'm sure you've all hear me say this before but you only have to look at twAtkinson who added the Fergie Time against City, when United played Everton and the latter scored 2 in injury time only 30 extra seconds were added and the whistle was blown with Everton throwing everyone forward on the attack. It doesn't matter what way you slice it the same ref isn't playing by the same rules for United and their opponents.
