Just on TV that the rumours of Fergie retiring is going round. I did hear a rumour a few months back that he will step down at the end of this season, also David Moyes has not signed a new contract will be taking over. Love him or hate him Fergie has been the best manager most of us have seen in our lifetimes.
I'm not sure if Moyes has the reputation and charisma to manage Man utd. Good manager no doubt, but would he be able to control and attract the worlds best players the way fergie can? He's made a very average team romp the league this season but if Moyes goes in I think they may have to slump before rising again.
I would of thought Fergie would be moved upstairs so he could be part of attracting players to club still. Don't think Moyes would have too much of a problem working with him upstairs. It was just a rumour, but with today's floating around maybe there was some truth in it as I was told a month or two ago.
Best manager ever. Simple as. Man united team looks terrible but yet they always win. I dont think he'll retire myself but moyes would be a great replacement.
If he's about to retire, he will have earned some rest in his old age. He's a workaholic and somehow, I don't think he'll ever be sitting around with nothing to do. He'll work at something until he drops.
The greatest manager who ever lived...fact! never will we see the likes of him again, well not in my life time anyhow!!! here's to Fergie
Hear hear. There have been great top flight managers in my lifetime when I think of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Brian Clough, Ron Saunders, Dave Sexton, Arsene Wenger and co, but Fergie is on a different planet again to all of them. Good luck to the bloke, top man ! He stands his ground, gives the team or individuals good bollocking when needed, isnt best mates with the prima donna players, and always protects his club and staff.
I am a bit older but that list is sound for me and I'd like to add Bill Nicholson, Sir Matt Busby, Sir Alf Ramsey, Bertie Mee and my personal favourite Sir Bobby Robson....
You could never underestimate what Sir Alex has done at club level. He has done a magnificent job and never been short of a few quid to spend on players. But the best manager ever? Not for me. Alf Ramsay took a tiny little, floundering club side from the bottom division to win the League Championship of the old Division One, within nearly consecutive seasons. (To put that in perspective, imagine Accrington Stanley winning the Premier League in five years time!) Ramsey as manager followed that by winning the World Cup with England.. Sir Alf Ramsay changed the way that football was played world-wide and that style hasn't changed a great deal since.
Sir Bobby Robson, Sir Alf Ramsey, Sir Fergie, Sir Matt, Bill Nicholson, Bill Shankley, Bob Paisley and here's the joker Dario Gradi have been the managers not at City that I have admired.
Taking Aberdeen to a SPL and European winners was easy task then? He might of had money but he also found a great bunch of kids as well.
Longevity is his greatest achievement in this time of fickle boards and fans calling for change every 5 minutes. Sir Alf Ramsey didn't need to contend with that, I believe the job is a much harder one these days with out of control players trying it on, The Champions league is so much harder to win these days for example. You wont see his like again...
Nobody can take away what people achieve and I'm certainly not going to try. The Manchester United youngsters were called the Busby Babes way before Fergie took over. Fair due to Fergie he has bulit the club on that tradition. The club was further popularised by the unfortunate events in Munich. Kids all over the world want to play for Man U. It's a massive cult thing. Choice between playing for Man U and most other clubs for the talented elite? No contest.
Those busby babes looked young when they won the league in 96 I'm sure they were Fergies youngsters??
For the Busby Babes read the Fergie Fledgelings according to the Manchester Press and I think the Sun and Star used it as well.
