Snippet from an upcoming interview. Van Gaal will fly when his players are fit!
Ability wise i think there is an argument to be had. He certainly posses more quality than most english midfielders. He plays a very continental game which most of us here will agree, is superior.
He can pass a ball well. As Arsenal are showing at the moment though, a team of good passers amounts to very little. Give me a well balanced side any day. Carrick just doesn't influence games enough like great midfielders do. Ask a 100 ex pros/fans/pundits whoever to pick a best ever premier league team and I'd be amazed if Carrick made more than 1 or 2. He certainly wouldn't make Fergies.
His influence on games is massive. He literally calms everyone down. Starts attacks from deep and brings composure to a frankly hilarious defence..
He does far more than that. Anyone who thinks he's just a great passer hasn't watched him enough. He doesn't fluke being in the right place at the right time, he reads the game ffs. In his pomp, his positional play was second to none, so much so that his defensive role was more about interception rather than tackling. Time and time again he thwarted attacks, reading the flow of the game, and the opponents runs and passes, regaining possession and then picking the pass to turn defence into counter-attacking play. THAT is what Fergie is probably alluding to.
Nah not having it. Good player, very good player in his prime but not a great midfielder. Current best England player? Of course not and he's hardly got a lot of competition.
There are certainly no stand out midfielders now Frank and Mr Slippy have retired. Henderson was best last year but is struggling, Wilshire was looking very good a couple of years back but has struggled with form and injuries. Milner is solid but not a match winner or someone who controls games. It shows how far backwards we've gone that Carrick's even in the running having never been a regular even in his prime. Hart, Cahill, Sterling, Sturridge and Rooney are probably the only players you'd say should be guaranteed starters.
The England managers of the last 10 years have been awful. The England team between 2002-2008 should have done alot better then what they did do.
Don't think anyone would be shocked if vG lands a prem title sooner rather than later. Solid consistently successful manager no matter where he manages. It's f**ing weird United havig a manager I have a don't hate
Yeah maybe to a point. I think both are very good players on top form though. Cahill is a Champions League winner remember having performed in some heroic defensive displays that year and far ahead of the other centre halves available. The worrying thing is the lack of depth. 10 years ago we had Terry, Rio, Ledley King and Carragher.
Yeh that's what I was thinking. Also add Sol Cambell to that. Hart only gets away with it bcos we've not had a decent keeper since Seaman, but really he's average and wouldn't want him. Regarding Cahil though, just imagine switching him and Phil Jones right now (Cahill in that United defence and Jones playing in yours)...which one will be having his ability questioned? Cahill all day long imo. I'm not saying he's poor but defenders get judged by how the defence performs as a unit, and I don't think he's actually better than others of similar ilk.
Van Gaal is a good manager, but for £150m he should be doing better. He bought unfit players like Falcao, Shaw and Tia Maria who are likely to have problems
Try harder. By the way. I didnt know Chelsea were going into wine production. It does explain why Jose is desperate to close the pointless acadamy down though. Hes clearly got plans for a bottling plant.
