Fer To Sunderland?

SUNDERLAND have sealed a deal for loan Ranger Leroy Fer, writes DAN KING.

The Black Cats are confident QPR midfielder Fer and Inter Milan's Yann M'Vila will be with them by Tuesday after agreeing season-long loan spells.

Fer joined the Hoops for £8m from Norwich last summer but getting the Dutchman off the wage bill will help QPR to readjust to life back in the Championship.

And it will allow Fer to play alongside cousin Patrick van Aanholt at the Stadium of Light.
The arrival of two international midfielders will be a major boost for Sunderland as boss Dick Advocaat prepares for next weekend's big kick off and a season which he is determined will not turn into another fight against relegation.

Be just about ok if they paid a decent loan fee but if just trying to get off the wage bill then would be better selling so at least have money to spend elsewhere on strengthening the squad.

Be very disappointed to lose Fer this season. He would have been a class above in this league and would have contributed his experience, to those around him, and goals to the team.

Well, he helped relegate Norwich, then relegated us so if I were a Mackem I'd be a bit worried at this news...

If there's any truth to this, I suppose it's the same logic as the Caulker loan: we get a useful loan fee, a large sum off the wage bill, the option of having him back if we get promoted and the player stays in the Premier League shop window. It would also look good in the FFP spotlight.

However, Fer, despite his laid back style, developed to become a much better player for us than Caulker, especially when played in his correct position in central midfield. He would be a powerful influence in the Championship.

Unlike the strange Caulker decision, we do currently have plenty of midfielders and may be about to ship yet another one in (Ebecillio): we have the numbers, if not the quality, to cover this piece of business. For that's what this would be: business; head not heart; a sign of the new regime under which we are operating. Sad but realistic.
