........ and players are blaming senior Management for our relegation, we are reliably informed by the writer of this article in The Daily Mail. Strange that there's no actual quotes ? He is in all probabilty correct though and IMO any player on our books not willing to roll their sleeves up and fight for the canary cause next year can get on their bike ! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...g-eyeing-exits-Premier-League-relegation.html
Bassong would make sense as he came on the back of CH, Fer thinks he is better than he is (in my opinion) but Hooper would be a loss as I feel he could do well for us in the medium term and IF Lennon comes in (big if) then that appointment might help our cause.
Whether or not the article has any truth in it, I TOTALLY agree that we only want players to play who are 'up for the fight!!!! In all honesty, I wouldn't be too disappointed if the rumour was true, as Fer especially, after a brilliant start became quite ineffectual. Might give some of our younger players a chance to show what they can do.
I've said before that according to someone I know who sees Bradley Johnson fairly regularly, the players were all pleased when Hughton went, with the exception of Bassong. This article seem to just follow on for the media love of Hughton and the determination that he was treated badly in being sacked and not seeing that he was given far more chances than any other manager. We were relegated when we lost to West Brom and Hughton was sacked after that, the reaction of player and fans in that game and his failure to affect any change or useful tactics made is position utterly untenable.
Sorry to dredge up my 'worst case scenario' post again, but here's what I thought the 'bare bones' squad for next year could be: GKs Bunn Rudd Defs Whittaker Martin R.Bennett Olsson Garrido Mids Johnson Howson E.Bennett Redmond McGeehan Surman Jo.Murphy Ja.Murphy Strks Hooper Becchio Loza Take Hooper out too and we'd need to make a couple of significant additions to our strike force.
Although I wouldn't mind keeping Bassong, I don't have a clue who would want to take him off our hands. He's now been relegated from the Premier League THREE times (with Newcastle, Wolves and now Norwich)! Surely a bad luck omen?
It's all well and good players wanting out but it needs a club (that they're willing to go to) to come in AND offer decent money. We are NOT having a fire sale, we have no need to sell so I would expect McNally to do the business on any approach that isn't offering a sensible figure
hi bath, does this friend have indication that BJ would stay? i think he would be great next season for us
i don't really mind who leaves but i would be very disappointed if hooper left because i think he'd tear the championship to pieces
Not really did say that the British guys took it very seriously some of the others attitude was more well we'll just find a new PL team if we get relegated.
I would like to see Hooper stay. I think he would be brilliant in the Championship. Fer at least we could get a good amount of money for, personally I would drive Bassong wherever he wants to go, even if it was Qatar
i think howson will stay. i reckon fer, bassong, rvw (on loan probably), ruddy (i think we'll sell him and promote rudd) and snodgrass will leave from the first team regulars. i fancy the rest to stay and also expect surman to come back into the fold
Surman coming back is an interesting call actually. Possibly Murphy might step up as Redmond may be picked off (no great loss) although E. Bennett will be well and truly back in the fold hopefully. To be honest I would not be unhappy to see all of the non-Brits leave, it is not meant to be in any way a racist comment but I genuinely think that the club means more to British players, people like Fer would just move on and pick up their money at the next club and not give a toss, ditto Bassong.
Sounds about right to me. Maybe someone will come in for Olsson as he's had a decent season IMO. If we get £5-6 million for Ruddy (is this realistic?) then that money would go a lot further in strengthening our squad for the Championship. At least we always seem to produce good youth goalkeepers. I think Rudd will be a great No 1 next year if that's the way we decide to go.
i don't think olsson will leave, nor redmond. should have mentioned that pesky wee irish chap - he'll be off too
I agree that Hooper would bang in plenty in the Championship, I also think that Redmond would terrorise defences at that level.
Unfortunately, I think that is true of almost all players- clubs mean feck all to most of them unless they are the team they supported as a lad, or that they have a long affiliation with.
