I don't know if he's every been criticised for being unfair, more for his habit of picking midfielders and defenders based on whether they scored or not. Fer was, admittedly, a refreshing departure from that policy. He also tends to pick sides that would never work on the pitch, I remember seeing something like a 3-5-2 with only attacking midfielders, and two full-backs picked.
