When the Southampton job became vacant there were rumours around linking Felix to the job. And this evening The Mirror claim that an approach has indeed been made ... and rejected.

"Fulham face a fight to keep boss Felix Magath after refusing Southampton permission to speak to him.

The 60-year-old German will have to walk out on the west London Championship club if he wants to hold talks with the managerless Saints about a swift return to the Premier League. Southampton want Magath to replace Mauricio Pochettino - who took over at Tottenham last month - by the end of next week.

They have already spoken to Feyenoord boss Ronald Koeman, too. But while Koeman, rejected by Swansea, is desperate to work in the Premier League, MirrorFootball understands Southampton are particularly keen to speak to Magath - despite his relegation with the Cottagers this season."

With the huge re-building task now evidently taking place - and Felix must be at the core of most of the decisions on player retention - this would be absolutely the wrong time to allow him to go. So well done the Club for resisting and let's hope this is the last we hear of it. At this particular time anyway.

Of the Southampton fans polled on the appointment of Felix, 73% were against.

Because he's got an excellent track record, and many people without Fulham loyalties (and some of us with them) see his time with us last season as making the best of someone else's mess rather than being responsible for taking us down. They could do worse. Hopefully, they will do!
