I mentioned this guy a couple weeks ago in the Rumour mill thread.

Now there is talk (from multiple sources I have seen) that we are preparing/submitted a 5m bid for him.

He's a striker from Ternana. Know nothing of him but from wiki:

He's a big centre forward at 6ft5. He's scored 10 goals for Ternana in 51 appearances, and before that 12 goals in 33 apperances for River Plate. Just 22 years old and has represented Uruguay at U20 level.

Seems odd we would be putting in a bid for him considering we've already signed Wood for a reasonable fee and the squad is so bloated with strikers. Still thought I'd put it up.

On a side note, looks like Sharp will be a Sheff United player very very shortly.

Interesting one this ... at least he's still a youngster, and playing for River Plate would mean he knows how to deal with hard defenders ... time will tell

£5mill..... We are currently shopping at poundland for our players... £5 mill is more marks and Spencer's... Can't see this being accurate.... What we actually need are some house of Fraser players to get us competing at the top of this league.... They start at £6.5mill plus.

Sorry to disappoint what we need is more Aldi players they are out there you just need to find them.I too fail to see how many giants we need when what we should be looking for his pacey tricky wingers who have the ability to cross a ball . we should take our cue from Chippys labour party they are looking for left wingers as well!

5 million for one player.... If we hadn't signed Wood I could have possibly believed it, a player rated at 5m will command a suitable wage too. Surely if we had this much to spend it would be well advised to bring in 2-3 quality players instead.

Read something about this a few days ago, but looks like an Italian side are in for him, and he's still not prolific at 10 and 17 goals, although his size makes him a target man. Bet Smith would have been better but we sold him.

Not sure if any truth in this because £5m a lot of cash and Caliagri are involved and every player with that connection gets mentioned.

I think Smith is wildly overrated by our fans. He wasn't that fantastic. Avenatti is being linked to prem clubs, not just us. Smith is nowhere near good enough for upper championship imo.

Having said that, I do think this is inaccurate. Cannot imagine why we'd be looking to spend that sort of money on one player let alone a striker which we have loads of

An attacking midfield player funny enough Allan Clarke ones asked me the very same question before Smith went to Manchester and that's where Fergie wanted him to replace Roy Keane and I told him the same as I have told you

We are now definitely talking about a different Smith <laugh>

Why would we be talking about Alan Smith?

Sorry Josh I didn't realise you were talking about Matt who if you remember I wrote about in Feb 2013 urging Leeds to buy him .What Matt gave us was an attacking option which we didn't have for corners or set piecesI honestly thought he could get into the Scottish squad and I still think he can because continental opposition don't like marking big men

Matt father was Scottish and played for Queens Park and Hearts before he was transferred to play for Bimingham then in the first division where Matt was born .Matts grandfather also played football in the Scottish league so he has a good pedigree
