With BC likely to become 'reluctant owner' again, (which I feel is a case of 'better the devil you know') we can look forward to actually coming out of administration with a new CVA and BC, being a business man, will want to get us back into the Championship, so as to make the club more salable.

Going by the old addidge that you never see a poor bookie, I thought I'd have a gander at Skybet [I only look - never play] and what I saw makes me look with a more positive outlook for next season than I have done for some time.

Firstly, Chris Hughton is now 4/5 to be West Brom's new manager, with Michael Appleton out at 12/1, in 5th place.

Secondly, Pompey's price for winning League One is 14/1 (joint 6th) which says to me that the bookies expect us to be there or there abouts as far as the playoffs are concerned.

Consider the administrator's comment a few weeks ago, when he said there were no offers for the club and that money will run out by the end of June. Add to that the fact the Football League AGM is on 2nd June and the club/administrator will almost certainly be asked to confirm that the club can fulfill its fixtures in the coming season, and I think you will agree that liquidation would have been a very real possibility.

Whatever your views about Chainrai, you have to concede, I believe, that his decision to make his buy-out offer [regardless of motive] is the catalyst to Pompey's rebuilding and regrouping program.

    The future starts here

I wouldn't count on BC to want to get us back to the Championship Devo - when we were relegated last time he said he wanted us to go back up and look what happened - he allowed DL to manage the club, quite badly (just look at our wage bill).

My prediction is that he will immediately put the club up for sale. I don't blame him for not putting any more money in than he absolutely has to, to him it is probably throwing good money after bad. I can't see the trust coming up with enough to purchase the club from him and even though they talk to Birch "every other day" I just can't see them coming up with the resources to be a better bet than BC.

Add to that the players that Appy will be able to take on, maybe if Rocha, Ashdown and Etuhu stay it would help, but as it stands at the moment we could be here for quite a while yet.

    I hope I'm wrong.

By the way, there is a very interesting article about Man Citeh in the Guardian - well worth a read.

    Mark Bailey - Pompey fan.........

Come on, admit it Mark, I have looked at your 'post history', and the vast majority of these are regarding PFC.

You are totally infatuated with our board, and our mighty club, so why don't you just "come out of the closet" and say it........go on, say it..........it won't hurt you........."I....I'm.......a.........P..........Po.......Pompey......... fan" - there you are, you can do it, if you really want to.

Totally agree with you........ we would all like to see a new owner, some one that we new and coud trust......but in all honesty we thought we could trust DL to do the decent thing....especially consideriung his history of employment! At least with BC, we know he has to protect his debenture......we know he will be looking for a new owner eventually, but considering we are now a L1 outfit, he will also be awre that our value and current value potential is waaaay lower than his debenture.......if he is successful in buying us, he has no option other than to invest in a squad, new staff and restructure the whole company to be able to take part and be competitve next season.......if he doesnt, he loses even more than the 18m already owed!

If he and his Portpin group have thought about this logically, they can probably purchase PFC with ongoing conditions for around 6M...... plus costs, give it 3 - 4 seasons of good footy and the feel good factor returns, a new owner makes an approach and before you know it BC is gone, paid back never to return!
