The Echo tells us that he has had to return home as he no longer holds a UK Work Visa.

The implications are that he is no longer earning, is feeling the financial pinch and is training with a local third division side.

Now part of me laughed like a drain. Serves him right.
Then another part felt profoundly sorry at the waste.

    (part of the article)

The Gabon midfielder was offered the chance to leave the Black Cats but could not agree terms on moves to Torino and Benfica, he subsequently failed to report for pre-season training and the club say 'no reason was given' for that absence.
The club's strongly-worded statement also raised the prospect of future legal action if and when Ndong should join a new club. Gabonese outlet iSport report Ndong had to return to Gabon because his residency card had expired. They claim he is now training with a third tier club in the capital Libreville though the name of the club has not been confirmed. The report said: "According to our information, the residence permit of the former Sunderland player, Didier Ibrahim Ndong expired since last August."However, with his dismissal, the man has no longer a contract of employment. Without a work contract, no renewal of his residence permit. Hence his return to Libreville."In the report, a source added: "He has a football team playing in 3rd division here in Libreville. He is busy preparing for the season. It will be difficult for him because financially it begins to experience difficulties."

What else did he expect ? he should have got back into the first team put himself on show and did a good job for us as well, he might still have a problem getting another club if they are hit with a transfer tribunal fee. He was a good player as well and Pappy. He won't be hard up though surely.

On topic - no, I don't feel sorry for him one iota.

He got overpaid for years to do **** all. He could have kept on earning the GDP of a small country just to come in and train, and sit on the bench, but he couldn't even be ****ed to do that. He's a ****. Hope he turns destitute and has to sell his body on the streets of Gabon. The parasitic little ****-haired prick.

No sympathy for him whatsoever, he had many chances to put things right and never lifted a finger. Great example of how it can go wrong for other dickheads contemplating the same thing.

Have to say I do feel a little sorry for him - was talking to my mate who has worked as a lower league football agent and he said that the youngsters have no idea how to live a general life - they can't go out and get their own mobile phone contracts or gas and electric accounts or bank accounts/mortgages as their agent does it all for them so they never need to know how. Sad thing is, the agents have no-one to answer to in any way!

I have no doubt in any way that this was all agent driven. He's been sold down the river by someone looking for a better pay deal and now playing worse than non-league football for hardly any money. Badly advised but these footballer often do think that their agent knows best - mainly because it's the only way they've ever known (particularly the young foreign ones)

I admire the club for standing up to it - but I do feel a little for him as it was obviously taking the wrong advice. They live in a different world to us these professional footballers

Sad thing is - the agent will have dropped him now like a hot potato - but he would've had to pay money to get out of the contract with the agent (they have contracts similar to players with a club but they're almost always worded in favour of the agent)

You make it sound like after signing a contract with an agent the next stage is that they scoop the player's brain out and replace it with a robot.

If an agent is wrecking a career and the player doesn't lift a finger to sort it out then he's a ****ing idiot and not the kind to have sympathy for. He's 24 not 14. Contact the club, turn up to training. Not things you need an agent to hold your hand for.

Marcus has a point, in that these overpaid prima donnas have agents who basically do everything for them except wipe their arse. The agents fawn all over them to keep their own gravy train running the players end up thinking the sun shines out of their back passages. However, I feel no sympathy for any footballer, to be honest. "It's a short career" is the biggest excuse for ****erdom that I hear. I have worked for the last 35 years and no-one's said to me: "hey Sid, here's a few million quid to keep you in meat pies for the rest of your life". Why should footballers be any different? They get paid shedloads of cash and if they spunk it all up the wall then it's back to work, you daft twats. N'Dong is a case in point. Totally self-interested and lost sight of the fact that he gets paid for playing football, not for being a footballer. There's a difference as DN'D is now discovering...

There's a lot of things happen which none of us know about so I'm really making assumptions - but I reckon he'd have been advised not to go to SAFC by his agent - the agent will say "It's the best way to progress your career" and he has no reason (in his head) to doubt it until it's too late.

Some of them really are that thick - he also hardly spoke a word of English which makes things much more complicated.

They really have no idea about life - my mates firm had a player who was asked to go into training half an hour earlier one day - he rang the agent and asked for advice!

I’m simply saying I have a modicum of sympathy for him. He has been ****ed over by an agent. But I still think he deserves everything he gets for being that stupid!!

I hope SAFC step and and stop him playing for this 3rd tier Gabonese club by demanding a fee.

The ****ing little ****house doesn’t even deserve to play football for pleasure, never mind a living.

They can blame agents all they want but the greedy little ****ers take their advice. I don’t believe for a second they are stupid enough to not think ‘yeah, this is a bit ****ing snakey not turning up’.

**** gin the ugly little prick.

I see Ndong is gone. 'Amicable' severance agreement apparently. We will receive a fee when he finds a club in January, I think.

    Would you sign him?

Average player (albeit with some ability) and a history of causing issues!

Why would you sign him? Most likely to go to a middling club now, but any such club can only think they'll just be a stepping stone for the arrogant little toe-rag. Long road back for him now, methinks...

Hell no but then I wouldn't have taken Rodwell either and he's currently being paid to keep Blackburn's bench nice and warm. Truly talented players can be worth the risk but Ndong isn't one.

I'm wondering where the fee payable to us is going to come from, is his new club going to have to agree to pay it? Out of his wages?
