So as some of you may know, my local team is the Los Angeles Galaxy and last night we through an 18 year old striker into the deep end while we were 2-0 down and he ended up scoring a goal very similar to Kiko's against Villa when he made his debut. A cheeky cut back 18 yards out and a shot into the top corner to tie the game. (Hilight's are on the MLS website if you're interested. I'd link it but I'm on my phone). It got me thinking, what's going to happen with Macheda at United? He always seems to score a few goals on preseason and a few in the regular season appearances he gets. Fergie seems to think he has potential as he's still at the club and he's tried to get him first team experience on loan, but every club he goes to the manager gets sacked shortly after he arrives. Kiko then becomes pushed out of the new manager's plans. Recently Macheda came out and said he wanted to make the grade at United, which something I think we all want our academy players to say and mean. Instead off p(i)ssing off to Juventus because they aren't willing to put in the work to become a first team player. Do you think Macheda will make it as a United player? Is Fergie keeping him around because he sees potential in him, or is Macheda just riding the coat tails of that Villa goal? Thoughts?
I think this is a make or break season for Macheda at United, if he fails to make an impact this season then I think he could be moved on, possibly back to Italy where I think his style of play will be more suited.
Don't see it myself. He's not a bad player and has potential but not sure he has enough to make the break through at United. Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez all offer the team something different and what they offer is far better than what Kiko does.
In my personal opinion I don't believe that being included in pre season means that Fergie has long term plans for him... I think he is in the shop window, as is Berbatov obviously... Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck are our main strikers, and with Keene injured either Berbatov or Macheda will remain as backup if they aren't sold. But even if both are sold, we have many players who can play the 'behind the striker role' (Kagawa, Young, Powell, Nani), so only having three front line strikers in the squad isn't a problem. But it's not gospel, I may be wrong, it does happen occasionally. (about once a year when talking to guys, and once a conversation talking to the girlfriend)
Nope, he's done his usual bit for the year, a promising game or two in pre-season and then content to sit on his arse in reserves banging on to all his hangers-on about being a Man U player. get shot of him.
