What are your views on the goalkeeper situation. We obviosuly tried to sign Butland for a lot of money, didnt happen, his game on weekend dropped a clanger. Federici had a couple of mares in both games so far...... Some would have happily swapped our own super kelv for one of these in the summer. I am happy with Gazza waiting in the wings and hopefully he will make the step up. Think he will be in between the sticks before christmas personally. COYR
Goalkeepers make mistakes and they always get hounded for them as they tend to lead to goals. Unfortunately I would expect Kelvin to make a clanger or two before December, it happens to all keepers. Gazza looks like a talent, I'm particularly excited by his distribution, I'm sure we will see him against Stevenage.
I have high hopes of Gazzaniga based on nothing other than he looks like a GK and Adkins obviously rates him. However, even after signing Gaz, Adkins mentioned the need for another keeper so I'm guessing he doesn't think that he's ready for the step up just yet. Depends how he develops, I guess.
Based on the evidence of one or two PL games involving all those keepers - a practice which is definitely not recommended to work on, but I'll fall for it - it looks as if Saints came out of the summer goalkeeping situation with the right man between the sticks.
Butland looked very poor the other day, but he is young and still learning. Davis isn't the best keeper in the world, but we're never going to sign the best keeper in the world. For our first season in the premiership, i'd rather have a nice, solid, experienced keeper rather than a young promising one who is learning his trade. Plus I have a large affinity towards super Kelv based on his loyalty, and i'm glad that he is getting a reward for sticking with us through the bad times (along with players like Lallana and Schneiderlin).
Would like an experienced goalie like Craig Gordon. Gazzaniga can then go out on loan, he needs regular games because otherwise he could end up like Bialkowski.
As said Davis is a nice, solid, experienced keeper. I just wish he would'nt keep on getting beat at the near post. (Tevez, Sunday.)
I don't think we'll sign another keeper, i'm sure kelv will make a few mistakes but then even the top goalie's do (cech yesterday), not the best keeper but over the years he's certainly saved us more points than he's lost us, prime example being leeds away
Trouble with keepers mistakes is they tend to result in goals and stick out like a sore thumb. How many mistakes do fowards make in a game that will only lead to surrendering possesion? It's very easy to forget all the saves and stops your keeper makes when he lets one slip through his hands in a game (THAT Rob Green moment, for instance) But SKD for me at the moment, Although I'd like to see a healthy rivalry develop between Gazza and SKD.
Agree with most, SKD will not be our first choice keeper at the end of the season. I feel that the goal looks huge compared to other keepers
I think Davis will last the season as number 1, however Gazza will play a few league games to prepare him and make him not bialkowski if that makes sense?
Bart kept a clean sheet against Hartlepool and has been on the winning side twice and appears to have picked up a yellow card for time wasting.
This all seems based in theory rather than hard evidence. At the beginning of last season a lit of people believed Bialkowski would/should takeover from Davis, then Bialkowski played against Blackpool & opinons changed... There is a reason why there are a lot of older keepers in the Premier League.
